Come on in, the water's warMMP

Today is one of my favorite days of the year; later today, I’ll head down South[sup]*[/sup] for what is usually fun & frolic in the Atlantic Ocean.

The water will be warm[sup]**[/sup] despite losing 3° in the past couple of days.

  • South Jersey
** It’ll be double digits warmer than the air.

Yes, that’s right; for the 26th time in the past 19 years I’ll be doing a Polar Plunge!!! Right where I got my start, with the ACPBC.
Pre-hijack question #1: What’s your NYDay traditions, if any?
Pre-hijack question #2: What’s with getting violent with the veges? Collaring the greens & punching the peas in the eyes? Can you punch other plants in the eyes, like carnivorous ones? That sounds like it could be fun.

Pre-hijack question #3: Do you do resolutions?
They tried to interview me for TV one year about NY Resolutions. I said I don’t believe in them as it’s the wrong time of year. The reporter cocked his haid & looked at me funny. I told him that I’d do them around Labor Day when summer ends & school year begins again, or in the spring when it starts to get nice & you want to be outside, that I wouldn’t do it in the middle of winter just because a piece of paper on the wall changes. I HATE the gym & would much rather be outside (I did a 5k in 12° temps just yesterday). It’s too cold & dark, & dangerous (between possibilites of black ice & cars not seeing you) to be out as much in winter. I DO start training for one sport now, but that’s just because of when racing season is. Otherwise, I usually become more*** active when the weather becomes nicer.

*** Though, with over 400 total miles in Dec, I’d actually like to become less active.

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 32 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 41 and partly N.O.S. for the day. My NYD tradition is to host a meal where everyone gets their collards and black eyed peas to start off the year. Matter of fact I shall get to cookin’ in a couple of hours. Don’t do resolutions either. I’m with ya in thinkin’ they are dumb Spidey. Lookin’ forward to spendin’ time with friends today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify since people are comin’ over. Then, the cookin’ of the feast must begin!

Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy New Year!

It’s EIGHT FREEKIN’ DEGREES!!!

Helluva way to start the new year. Especially since we decided to let the stove burn out overnight so I could de-ash it this morning. That explains why the furnace came on every 10 minutes or so. But de-ashification is done, Higgs had completed her morning routine, and I’m having some more leftover pizza for breakfast. The pellet stove just fired up and with luck, the house will be above 67° before too long.***HAPPY FROSTY NEW YEAR!!!

I don’t do resolutions, but my fervent hope is that the “president” and his minions are reclaimed by a ship from their home planet, and things can return to a state of relative normalcy.

On the other hand, 2018 is Year of the Grandbaby!! YAY

This is my first post of the year.

Happy New Year!

I don’t have New Years traditions, the last 10 years I’ve been irking New Years Day more often than not, and I don’t really care. I volunteered for the shift a few times because I knew almost everyone else minded and I didn’t.

I agree about it being a stoopit time of year to do resolutions. If I do resolutions, I’ll do them for my birthday, in February, when it’s just starting to get lighter and the sap’s thinking about rising; besides, that’s my year start, not this generic one.

I hope 2018’s a better year for everyone!

Hi all!! Went to bed early and been up since 0430. Sunrise was beautiful: clear & a cool 64F. The weather guesser says we’ll have overnight lows of 44F and highs of maaaybe 60F on Wed-Fri. Which tells me the rest of y’all in the southeast are gonna get worse before you get better.

To Spidey’s Qs: No particular traditions, not big on resolutions. I do work on personal improvements, but that’s a year-round process. Less time spent Doping is one of those improvements; we’ll all see how well I do or not.

When I lived in cold country I never did a Polar Bear. I have done the hot tub and snowbank thing a time or three. But I went swimming a few days ago here when the ocean was 79 and the air was 65, so the water was 14F hotter than the air. That feels kinda weird.
Happy and better 2018 to all!!

The temperature has tripled since I got up…it’s now 3°!

::glares at LSLGuy:: :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Moonday!

Happy New Year!

It’s 8 frigid degrees outside. It’s chilly inside but that has to do with me being sick.
I can’t wait for my morning shift to be over so I can go back to bed.
Better you than me Spidey.
It hurts to think about being in cold water.
It hurts to think about going outside.

I’m glad I bought a bunch of stuff at the grocery store and we can last another week without going out if we need to.

I usually watch the* Twilight Zone* marathon for New Year’s but I’m not interested this year.
I see the hallmark channel is back to normal,* Columbo* is on. I was going to boycott hallmark, but I’ll make an exception for Columbo.
I never really watch it much anyway, just background noise for when I am irking.

I make resolutions every year, write them up, and put them in the front cover of my notebook so I can see them first thing everyday.
I’ll notice them a few times during the year and say oh yeah, I am supposed to be doing xyz aren’t I? Forgot all about that, oh well, there’s always tomorrow, next week, next year.

I’m showered and wearing attire appropriate for leaving the house. Not that I plan to leave the house. At least not till I *have *to.

The dishwasher has done its thang, **FCD **has scooped cat poop, and I’m trying to decide how productive I’ll be today. After all, I started out productive - surely that’s enough… right?

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year. Went to bed normal time, awoke normal time - which is our normal New Year’s process.

It’s 15 F outside, according to my thermometer. Weather site claims 17.

Normal New Year’s is sitting by a roaring fire and having the traditional cornbread and black-eyed peas meal. I might get brave enough to venture out to the hot tub, but that will depend on wind speed. One of my Christmas presents was the entire run of the show “Becker”. Binge watching is planned for today.

Resolutions are a partial repeat of last year. Continue removing politics from my daily life by jettisoning friends/shows/venues that insist on harping about it (SDMB excepted). I want to continue spending more time outside “doing” things rather than inside “watching” things. I’m practicing with the drone and trying to juggle the tasks of flying and controlling the camera. I started learning 3D printing last year, and want to get better at it. I made a cool bracelet for the missus, and a couple of access hatches for my boat (needed a bespoke size) and hope to get good enough to contribute my code to Thingiverse.

12[sup]o[/sup] F.

dammit.

It’s -6F right now. I think I’ll stay inside.

Happy New Year!

I changed a headlight for Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) before she went to work last night. The damn thing has clips that you can’t see. I was around 20[sup]o[/sup]. I’m glad it wasn’t -6[sup]0[/sup]!

Our temp has soared to 11°!!

I just put on my sweatshirt - even with the pellet stove, there’s still a bit of a chill in the house. Stoopit winter.

It’s TWELVE BELOW ZERO. Too cold to smoke in the garage. I may have to fire up in the house.

13F here in N. Ali-bama…a veritable heat wave compared to at least some other places (looks at Flyguy).

No resolutions or traditions here, never keep them anyway. And jumping into cold water is up with something which I will not put. and I am never rude to my vegetables or other produce.

Did you a swampy thing last night and checked on the toilet paper status in Casa Rat. 42 rolls on hand, so I should be safe in case of impending apocalypse. Trust everyone else is prepared likewise.

Didn’t make it to midnight, but do feel better today. Hope you get feeling stronger, Sari.

wet one, sounds like a good excuse to quit smoking. :dubious:

House is slowly warming up, will break fast here shortly. All y’all stay warm now.

Happy new year!

BEP and greens were sampled last night after midnight. The main course of them shall be consumed this evening along with cornbread and cucumber salad.

The party was fun last night. We had a good mix of musicians and instruments. It tilted towards folk and bluegrass, what with the mando, a hammered dulcimer and my autoharp in the bunch. I got into a couple of board games as well.

It’s 14 freakin’ degrees outside! We also got a few flakes of snow last night (it looked more like frost this A.M. when I walked the dog).

Today’s intinerary includes prepping meals for the irkweek, doing a load of clothes, cleaning the mildew spots on the ceiling where I over humidified for a week or so and prepping the craft for the heathen children. Other than that, a couple of movies on TV.

We have purtified and the cookage of the feast is underway. Folks will be arrivin’ around eleven. A good time shall be had by all. After seein’ the temps some of y’all are dealin’ with, I shan’t complain about the relatively mild 34 Amurrkin temp here.

dammit

I love New Year’s resolutions. I love the prospect of starting over.

I don’t have anything in mind yet, but I think if it’s anything, it will be curbing my internet addiction. That’s probably the one greatest change I could make. That’s going to lead to more efficient writing, and my writing is my true North. I think I’ll start with habit replacement - swapping phone games for the Kindle app, for example. Reading puts me in a writing mood.

My husband is home today, we’re housecleaning and then having our D&D group over to watch “Scrooged,” a Christmas classic we had to delay due to weather.

Whatever happens I’m definitely staying inside.
