What would truly be horrible is if the Daily show is cancelled due to low ratings…

Speaking of Comedy Central, does anyone else friggin’ hate Crank Yankers? That’s the stupidest idea for a show I have ever heard of or seen. Prank calls were funny when I was 9. Puppets have never been funny. Please, let it end.
Well, if it gets low ratings at 5:30, they wouldn’t cancel it. Remember, that’s just the rerun edition. The real one’s still on at 11pm.
And Genseric, the Muppets were funny! Still are. Oh, and maybe you should watch Let My Puppets Come.
Ok, the Muppets. Granted. Still a terrible, terrible show.
Yeah maybe it would have had a slim chance when The Jerky Boys were popular like…oh…10 years ago.
What a dumbass show.
Aren’t the newer SNL reruns going to E! in another year or two? So I guess CC wants to make sure they are completely played out before they switch to another channel.
I like Jon Stewart, but wish the Daily Show didn’t have those damn unfunny “correspondents”: Mo Rocca, Steve Carrell, Nancy Walls, etc. The wacky interview bits stopped being funny years ago and I hate when Stewart is off and any of them try to fill in, especially during the interviews. Just give me 30 minutes of Stewart and Lewis Black.
And give me more Insomniac. It’s stupid, but at least it’s not puppets reenacting prank calls.
I work 3rd shift, and sleep from 8 am till 2 pm. I always woke up in the “morning” to an hour of them crazy Canadian Kids. Now they are gone
FUCK YOU COMEDY CENTRAL!!
You mean people actually find Lewis Black funny?
I liked some of the correspondents… Brian Unger, Vance Degeneres, and A. Whitney Brown. Even Mo Rocca was funny once in a while.
I, too, miss the old shows like Stand Up Stand Up and The A-List. Instead, we get crap like that bowling show.
Y’know, it’s strange…
I share most of the feelings exhibited here:
I miss Stand Up-Stand Up, and SAST, and MST3K with Joel (through season 6, I think)
But as I think about it, and occasionally dig out the tapes (keep circulating the tapes!) and rewatch 'em…
They had the same problems then, to an extent at least, as now. Stuff got re-run to death. Remember watching (on the Comedy Channel, mind you) an episode of MST3K, that you’d seen a couple months before, then flicking off Stand Up-Stand Up after the first couple bits, since you’d seen that one three times already during the week? Granted, it wasn’t nearly as miserable as it is now (I barely watch the channel anymore) it was still better once upon a time.
And there’s the rub, I think. There was still a shine on the idea of an all COMEDY network, so that you’d put up with a lot more, while they got their legs under 'em.
Naaahhhh. Piss on it. CC’s programming department is dropping acid hourly to come up with this shit. I’m gonna watch my 5 tape Turkey Day marathon, and really just relax.
MST3K…CRAP
Upright Citizens Brigade…CRAP
Strangers with Candy…CRAP
Crank Yankers…CRAP
The Critic…CRAP
The Man Show: I never thought it could be possible to be bored watching beautiful women in skimpy clothing, but they have proven me wrong. I love Adam Carolla on the radio, but that guy just is not funny on TV. And South Park jumped the shark about 2 years ago. The Daily Show is the only thing they have going for them now.
And those tired stand-up routines:
Men and women are different
Black people and white people are different
Relationships are difficult
Airplane food sucks
The current President is dumb
TV commercials are unrealistic
Yeah, WE GET IT.
Gosh, blowero, do you find any humour in life?
And I can’t believe I missed mentioning the Kids in the Hall. Thanks for bringing that up, d_redguy.
And what about Dr. Katz? That was one of my favorite CC shows, only around for a few seasons now gone. And yet Battle 'Bots lives on.
Yeah, but a lot of those stand-up comics repeat the same themes over and over. Some are pretty bad, some are pretty good. It’s all potluck.
It just seems that every time I turn around they’ve got a new show, not giving any of the current shows a real chance. Just when you get used to one, it’s gone.
I keep reading threads like this and they just make me feel sorry for our children and grandchildren. Someday we’ll be all old and grey we’ll have been turned into these bitter acidic people who are just no fun to be around and the people who’ll be at fault are just too numerous to count. And then we’ll all be put in homes so they don’t have to be around us anymore. We should start plotting our revenge now.
I keep hoping he’ll show up on Home Movies, I mean he’s practically there already. Nothing yet. Actually I’m on the look out for Laura.
Hey, now! Don’t be dissing Mo Rocca! He has done some of the funniest interviews I’ve ever seen in my life. Did anyone see how badly he pissed of Jerry Van Dyke when he talked to him about JVD’s old TV show- “My Mother, the Car” in Stewart’s first year as host? (Ths show was about a man who’s mom reincarnated as a car, in case anyone didn’t know.)
Mo: <intensely apalled> What kind of a man would intomb hismother in a car??!!
Jerry: <face turning bright red> Dammit, boy! <sputtering> She was already dead! <screaming> She wasn’t in the car! Her body wasn’t in the car!
::sigh:: Maybe I just have a soft spot for him because of that.
Has anyone seen that new British prank show on CC- Trigger Happy TV? It caught my attention when this guy, carrying a basket full of washcloths, was going up to a door with a short guy in a suit. The short guy was Buzz Aldrin, who he introduced and all, before trying to sell the washcloths to the woman at the door. Selling door-to-door with the second man to walk on the moon- who thinks that stuff up?
It’s a bit different from American prank shows. The biggest difference is they don’t have the commerical break tease, the behind-the-scenes setup, and the explanation to the people they’ve pulled a joke on at the end. It goes kind of fast.
Philistine.
CC is to comedy what MTV is to music. CC really could be doing a lot more to introduce the audience new comedians rather than constantly reminding us that all of Cheri O’Teri’s characters are basically the same nodding hyperkinetic twit.
Certainly, but not in those shows I mentioned. I get more laughs watching MAS*H re-runs that I’ve seen 10 times each.
Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear to you, when I say The Daily Show is the only thing they have going for them, and when I say I love Adam Carolla on the radio, that means I find them humorous. I thought this was a thread on what we didn’t like about Comedy Central, not a list of “things we find humorous in life”.
Maybe you’re not getting the whole “BBQ Pit” concept?
Kids in the hall is still around, but not at 2am…
South Park, bye-bye! (I wish) SNL re-runs = lame. MST2K was classic. Ditch THE Man Show, please! We need some new material! Sorry 'bout the Daily Show thing…
“Someday we’ll be all old and grey we’ll have been turned into these bitter acidic people who are just no fun to be around . . .”
—Obviously you don’t know me very well. That happened about ten, 15, years ago . . .
