comfort food

The infamous chicken pot pie!

Fishsticks too.

Cream of Wheat (made with milk and brown sugar)
Cinnamon refrigerator cookies (they’re a Proustian experience for me)
My dad’s beef stew
My dad’s omelettes
My dad’s tuna glop with Ritz crackers (consumed while watching football)
Spiced apple rings
Cornbread and honey
Whole wheat toast with raspberry jam
Cinnamon rolls
Prune kuchen
Apricot kolaches
Barbecued brisket
Dairy Queen cone, plain or dipped in chocolate or caramel (with a nod to the long-suffering Matt_mcl)
Watermelon rind pickles
“Hawaiian” pizza (canadian bacon and pineapple chunks)
Chocolate malted
Plain Japanese sticky rice
Pocky sticks

Pot roast (preferably a little on the fatty side) with mashed potatoes.

Soft-boiled eggs in eggcups with the little toast fingers.

Cold pizza

Cold cereal; homemade chocolate chip cookies with cold milk; Mom’s turkey; Dad’s eggs, onions, and potatoes; Campbell’s tomato soup made with heavy cream and grilled cheese; chocolate; and roast chicken. Among other things

Robin

Pork

BIGGIRL

Is there a special type of pork that you prefer or does any type do for you? My mother-in -Law mkakes this pork pot roast that is to die for. If you like I can give you the recipie. PORK RULES!!!

I’ll meet you there, MsRobyn.
I use half-and-half for my tomato soup.
I like the tomato soup and grilled cheese combo when it’s cold out. Rainy or snowy, whatever, it has to be cold, and then I start craving my soup and sandwich lunch. And you MUST dip the sandwich in the soup!

Other comfort food:
Toasted English Muffin with chunky PB and orange marmelade. Great late-night snack!

For me, comfort food must be creamy:
[ul]slightly melty ice cream (all or predominantly chocolate)
cream of potato soup
New England clam chowder
hot cocoa with marshmallows
Kahlua and cream
buttermilk pie

<follows MsRobyn and Kinsey>

i agree that it has to be creamy for the most part. but, my mom’s fried chicken cheers me up every time!! and when i’m really low, i make up a huge mess of fried catfish, and that really helps, too.

others:

potato soup
mashed potatoes
potato chips (hmmm, i’m seeing a trend, here)
real cream of mushroom soup that i make from scratch
CHEESECAKE!!!

grilled cheese and tomato soup. the sandwich made with the orange american cheese I’ll eat no other time, and the soup made with water, not milk.

oooh. and french toast with jam.

For me it’s:

  • M&M’s
  • Mother’s double fudge cookies
  • McDonald’s (Quarter Pounder w/Cheese and fries)
  • Chicken with cream of mushroom soup over rice
  • Steamed cauliflower with cheese
  • Pizza from the Garret (a local pizza joint)
  • Cheese puffs (but only the nuclear orange puffy type)
  • Kraft macaroni and cheese

(apparently most of my comfort foods involve either cheese or chocolate…but not together, fortunately)
