Comic book fans: when did Magneto die?

I used to follow the Marvel mutant comics obsessively back in the '80s when I was in college. In the subsequent years I bought a few issues but didn’t keep up with them (especially since they seemed to proliferate in quantity but not (IMO) in quality during the '90s.)

So lately I heard that my favorite mutant, Magneto, was killed (presumably–yeah, I know this is Marvel and nobody really dies for good) by Sentinels on Genosha, where he was apparently in charge. I also heard that these events followed a fight with the X-Men in which Wolverine stabbed Mags.

While I have no intention of being dragged back into the whole X-universe, I do want to read this story arc. Can someone help me out by giving me the titles and issue numbers/dates where it appears (including at least everything from the fight with the X-Men through the death of Magneto–more if it’s relevant)? I sense a trip to the comics shop in my future…

Much appreciated!

(Note to mods: I’m assuming this is a General Question since it has a (mostly) definitive answer. If not, thanks for moving it to Cafe Society.)

Magneto died in one of Grant Morrison’s first issues of New X-Men (#117? – somewhere around there). I am reading Morrison’s title; it is the only current X-book I read and it’s been more than ten years since I followed them with any regularity, yet I do not find much a problem with prior continuity. Mostly Morrison is riffing off stuff from the Claremont-Byrne years of the 70’s and early 80’s.

I’ll move this thread to Cafe Society.

You might want to ask this question in the Comic Book Guy thread. The SDMB’s resident Comic Book Guys are pretty active in there and may not catch this thread.
