Pretty much… Yeah. I would guesstimate that 75% or greater of the times It was Liberal’s fault. He conciously derails threads and turns them about him. He gives “insult-pliments” (that way of complimenting one person while simultaniously putting down the rest of the people in the thread). He cries and whines and plays martyr and victim, all the while thumbing his nose at people because he is sneaky enough to do it under the radar. And he mostly does it under the radar so he can by the martyr when people call him on it. Thats if nitpicking and overanalasying everything in the argument or just plain out-talk everybody until they get tired of arguing over minutae. He does this thousands of times, in threads ranging from IMHO to the Pit. Oh, he loves the pit, because he likes to insult people, then get gets all pissy when he gets inulted back.
Every thread doesn’t exist in a vaccum, so it isn’t one post, it is his 20+ thousand posts. The onus of the board is “Don’t be a jerk?” does that include baiting others, derailing innocent threads, and being a sadistic drama queen with martyr complexes? Sounds like perfectly jerkish behavior to me. Personally the whole Jerk thing leaves much to be desired, as anybody can be percieved as a jerk, and sorry to say, half the population of this board is full of grade A pricks (yes, probably myself included).
That would be my take on it. Preferably somewhere else.
I should clarify- I mean that half the population can regularly be grade A pricks. Not that they are all the time. People I see being assholish in one thread are a veritable saint in another. People just have different buttons.
I don’t see it being a simple matter of respecting his wishes but rather keeping Dopers from dredging up the old argument of why he chose to change his name and allegations of trolling related to said argument. All allegations of trolling are supposed to be kept off-board.

I’d suggest finding some other way to annoy him but annoying people for the fun of it probably falls under trolling. It’s probably just best to just wait for him to run out of rope.
If people didn’t respond to Liberal’s brief off-hand observations with lengthy multi-paragraph denunciations, he wouldn’t be able to hijack any thread.
Case in point: Lib doesn’t like the daily show, and feels Jon Stewart is a disingenious leftist. That’s his opinion, and he’s welcome to it. If he posts said opinion, it is not necessary for fifteen posters to jump on him with detailed counterarguments to a one sentence observation. All people have to do is read his post, smile, shake their heads, and say “that’s our Liberal.”
I’m with jrfranchi. His power is baffling. He’s not pointing a weapon at you, he’s not threatening you, he has no power over you at all other than the power you give him. If he says something that pisses you off, just let it go and return to your regularly scheduled thread.
Sometimes I get the feeling that people enjoy being pissed at Liberal, that it gives them some meaning in their lives. I don’t get this.

There are a few posters on this board who piss me off whenever I read what they have to post. You know what I do? I don’t read them. If I can do this, I don’t understand why everyone else can’t do this with Liberal if he’s just that big a pain in the ass.
Well now, if you look at the Pit thread that I started, it was not about Lib at all. In fact, I said that Lib is going to do what he’s going to do and, no matter how annoying I find it personally and there’s nothing I or anyone else can do to stop it. What I was bitching about was the way the administration of this board bent to his whiny will and moved the stupid thread. And now it seems he has the power to get people banned just by calling him by his own old name. That’s some kind of powerful, don’t you think?
Since I was named specifically in this stupid rant about how he’s not paranoid and I really am out to get him, I think I have a right to respond-- flippantly and sarcastically if I feel like it.
I would agree, **Lib ** did give you the right to respond as he specifically mentioned you by name twice. Also it is the pit, so enjoy.
Myself I hope I am now wise to ways of Lib and will either ignore his specific post or comment on them or even support them without contributing to the extreme Hijacks I have seen developed.
I am too new to this board to have much history with Lib one way or the other, but I have already had my own thread hijacked and destroyed, reached an understanding with him, ignored his posts in other threads and sided with him in a few. The derailments he instigates do take a lot of help to happen.
This is mostly meant with humor, but, maybe a sticky should be put up “Beware of Liberal’s postings that will cause enough outrage to cause you to hijack a thread”. That wouldn’t really work, so maybe learning to live with Lib is part of the hazing for joining the board.
I am sure many might take offence to this post, but hopefully it will be received as an observation and not a confrontation.
Also, a few words of real, heartfelt advice for Lib: Don’t read the anon forums. No good can come of it. Really. They are NOT for anyone with even a hit of a persecution complex and judging by this OP, you’ve got one in spades, Lib.
If you don’t read them, they can’t hurt you. Seriously.
