Well, there was also that lying sack of trash, Aldeberan, who got quite upset over any changing of his username althought he loved to call Americans “USers” and basically told anyone who pointed out his hypocrisy to buzz off.
For a rugged individualist libertarian, Liberal sure is sensitive! I don’t see how referring to someone’s political views, especially when they’re as outspoken about those views and take pains to vocally apply those views to every concievable situation, as our friend lib does, can be construed as insulting. Do you feel insulted when I point out you’re a libertarian, Liberal? You can call me “liberal,” because I am one. I’m not insulted. But somehow calling Liberal a libertarian is insulting to him–so insulting, in fact, that it requires the intervention of a moderator. That’s awfully cooercive and authoritarian for a libertarian, isn’t it? Oh wait, maybe you’re a liberal now, Liberal.
Still, I don’t know why it’s insulting to be called what you really are. Maybe you should try and improve your self esteem, Liberal, or are your self-esteem problems part of the reason you became a libertarian and are now so ashamed of it? There are so many things about libertarianism that I don’t understand. If only there were someone who could explain it to me. But all I see here are Liberals, and they surely don’t understand libertarianism the way a true libertarian would.
Nevertheless, I will refrain from calling the libertairan known as Liberal libertarian because I have respect for the rules of this board and I recognize that rules are sometimes necessary to keep order in social situaitons. I guess it’s the liberal in me.

Well, I of course I know who he is. I just assumed that someone who commands the respect he does from certain Dopers would know better than to publicly Pit someone over such a little thing so soon after being reinstated, especially when his suspension was in part because of jerkery.

I believe askeptic is trying to point out that the variant “Liberaltarian” has already been tried, and rejected (in the original mess when Liberal first changed his screen name).
However, from what I can see, outside of Liberal’s OP, nothing in this thread is new. It’s all the same old vitriol that’s been rehashed and rehashed. Some of the players may be new, some not, but the tune is the same. What surprises me is that Lib has been gone for 30 days, and has only made the one post in this thread…yet everyone was waiting to dogpile him. People want to complain about his habits? What is this? How is it helping anything?
Gah, I think people here smell blood. They figure if they keep poking at him, Liberal will explode all over the board and they’ll ban him. Or he’ll voluntarily leave, a lesser victory. Who knows? Add enough fuel to the fire, and maybe it’ll happen. I’ll say this, for all the bookies trying to figure odds, if Liberal does go out over this, I don’t think he’ll be the first. Some of the schoolyard bullies around here are frothing a little too much right now, and they aren’t the only ones who know how to poke buttons.
I’m just quite amazed at how pathetic many people here are acting. Thirty days obviously did nothing for some.
