Commercials that you ABSOLUTELY...um, actually like.

I don’t even remember what product they were selling but GI Joe friskin Barbi away from Ken in the toy Ferrari was pretty grinnable. I think it was accompanied by some good VanHailin’ as well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! If I was a woman --and attractive-- I’d ask you to father my children!

Dewey Cheatem Undhow, I remember seeing that Concorde commercial once and thought it was brilliant as well. I had completely forgot about it though. 'Tis a shame that people would complain about it.

The Snickers commercial where the football player gets knocked on the head

Coach: DO you know who you are

Player: Of course! I’m Batman!

And we see him later with a towel around his neck going “To the Batcave!”

Also the Discovery channel one with the guys dressed up in fake meteor costumes that ends with them saying very deadpan “Ahhh… the atmospere!”

Ditto the Ikea lamp commercial Triskadecamus mentioned and the office one from NYR407. Both very funny.

I have to admit I like the Five Alive commercial that shows some stupid fashion photoshoot (“That’s it - that’s it! You have to work for money!”), and the camera pulls back to show some old hippy dressed up like Tinkerbell. Something about the absurdist humour of it tickles me. Almost enough to persuade me to try the product, but not quite. They used to market it as a innocuous fruit drink for preteens (“Okay Five Alive, refresh me!”), but now I guess they’re trying to seem more sophisticated.

I like all the Sprint commercials. Especially the one with Zigfield and Roy.

All the Jack in the Box commercials, and the Burger King response. The talking menu board is great.

And on the radio. The Mercedes Benz ads where the Dad talks in his cool new voice.

I really like NASCAR’s “How bad have you got it?” commercials, mainly because I know people who could be in those commercials.

My current favorite is a Dodge commercial. Guy is pulling a classic Charger behind his new Ram when two guys in another classic Mopar pull up and ask “Does it have a Hemi?” Truck proceeds to dust them off the line at the light, then at the next light the truck driver asks them, “Did you mean the Charger? 'Cause it has one too.”

Teh recent Jack In tHe Box commercials crack me up all the time. THe newest one they have:

Guy 1 (has a big pointy hat like Jack tied to his head): Hey, they think I’m Jack. They game me curly fries fro free.
Guy 2: Doofus, they’ll give you curly fries with any combo. They don’t think you’re Jack.
Guy 1: Then why… did I get his paycheck? (pulls check from his pocket)

The football ads they had were great as well. “Blimp pilot Bob says ‘Not in my house!’” (blimp dives into the stadium to knock over a receiver)

Good heavens, the typo gremlins got to me.

The THE the THE the. I can spell it correctly.

I read a description for an ad that never made it to TV. It was a combination ad for Milk and Pillsbury.

The family is gathering around the oven as Mom pulls fresh-baked chocolate chips cookies from the oven. Dad says they can’t have cookies without milk and sends one of the kids to the fridge to get some. Open the fridge and there’s the Pillsbury Doughboy, looking guilty and wearing a milk mustache, caught in the act of drinking the last of the milk. Then the tagline: “Got Milk?”

Pillsbury wouldn’t approve the ad because they said it portrayed the doughboy in an unfavorable light. Spoilsports.

Some years ago there was a brilliant one for Persil Automatic (I kid you not). There were two members of a heavy metal band standing in their living room, dressed in the standard floss hair, black teeshirts, chains and studs. A third metalhead is standing in the doorway with a lighter teeshirt, looking aghast.
_ Look man, we’re called like, “Black Snake”, 'cause we’re like, black. But you’re more sort of…
_ (thrusts out black studded leather gloved hand) … charcoal!
_ So that’s it guys?! I’m aaaaht?
_ I’m sorry man.
_ (together, having crossed forearms with clenched fists in front of them) That’s rock’n’roll!

This was followed by a metallic Persil logo surrounded by rotating thunderbolts on a black background with a heavy metal soundtrack.

This advert was only on for a couple of weeks and I can’t find any references to it on the Internet. I’d be really grateful if anyone had an mpeg of this or something.

The ones that are always funny are the ESPN SportsCenter commercials.

And ESPN was smart enought to have about 100 of them at
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/thisissportscenter/archive.

Like:

  • Mark McGwire gives Dan Patrick his 62nd home run ball as a sign of friendship. Next scene shows Dan driving to work in a Testarossa.

  • Grant Hill, in uniform, cheers up Dan by singing and playing a piano.

  • Keith and Dan put on makeup for the show.
    " Your foundation looks great."

  • Things go bad during a Y2K test. Mascots fight, cheerleaders scream, etc.

Darn it, try this one and click on ‘Visit the archive, today!’

SportsCenter commercials? Always funny? Well, yeah, if you enjoy junior high humor. WTF is with that jock laughing at the guy’s name?

I like the radio commercials, Honda I think, with the deadpan delivery. Always a good line at the end of those.

For some reason, I really enjoy the Corn Pops commerical with the little animated, happy, dancing, drawn-with-a-red crayon guy who keeps splitting in two while dancing and smiling to a spiffy tune.

I thought that it was a homage to the movie Kingpin. There’s a scene in it where an older lady is laughing 'cause the guy’s name is Munson.

Of course, I could be totally wrong here.

Another “power of cheese” commercial:

(Picture of moon in background):

Fade in text:
For hundreds of years, people believed the moon was made of green cheese.
Thirty years ago, we went to the moon and found out it was made of rock.
(pause)
We haven’t been back since.

(Up raises a plate of cheese into view, followed by text “behold the power of cheese”)

The Geico commercial, where the lady is picking up her daughter from school. She doesn’t have a car, just an air-horn and a bumper sticker on her butt. She stops at the crosswalk and “pulls” into a parking spot and blows her airhorn at her child. There is a line of cars around her wanting to pull into the spot.
I saw one the other day, I forgot what it was for. The only part I remember was this guy walking around to all the people in his office asking if they need computer help. One obviously clueless guy says to him, “I think I crashed the internet…”

There’s a Verizon commercial that’s a perfect homage to the live-action end of Yellow Submarine, right down to the font used for the text onscreen.

I also love the IKEA commercial that was mentioned–that guy’s accent kicks ass.

And how could you guys mention the Snickers commercials and not bring up the catchphrase? “Great googily moogily!”

I haven’t seen this commercial in awhile, but the commercial for the blue slurpees at 7-11. There’s a business man in his office, and a kid at the window sticking his tongue out. The business man looks around and then starts sticking his tongue out at the kid. The camera POV then changes to the outside where the kid is, and we see that he’s actually looking at his reflection and sticking out his tongue. He doesn’t even see the guy in the office.

I love that commercial. It cracks me up every time I see it.
