Every now and again, I see a commercial that first aired like, three years ago. There’s not much different in the world between now and three years ago, so without that expressed knowledge, one would never even know.
But there are some classic commercials from way back when that they really couldn’t air, but hold enough nostalgia and happy memories that it would be great to see them air again. My personal favorite:
Not really a commercial, more of a PSA. It starts off with a kid listening to his headphones, when all of a sudden his father wips them off of him and stands over him with a cigar box full of drugs. The father sits there and hassles the kid about “Where’d you get these? Where’d you learn to do this?” to which the child replies:
I liked that PSA with the waifish girl destroying a kitchen with the “this is your brain on drugs” frying pan. Totally unexpected and quite arresting.
For an actual advert, I liked the one where they relaced the fine coffee this upscale restaurant usually serves… Maybe the beef council could do a spoof, like: “We replaced the fine grade A beef this steakhouse usually serves with our new improved TofuCrapNuggets. Let’s see if anyone notices… Beef. It’s what for dinner.” ( SNL did a spoof replacing coffee with ground sea shells and sand, but mine would actually sell something )

Ahhh, yes, that was the beautiful Rachel Lee Cook, and a perfect example of what I’m talking about. The commercials ran in the 80’s of the close up of the frying pan with the overlooming “This is your brain…this is your brain on drugs” voice over. I like the updated “and this is what drugs do to your life” ad as well.
Remember that Coke commercial where the kid gives the footbal player (Mean Joe Green?) the coke, and Joe tosses him the footbal jersey?
I’d like to see an update of that…Mean Joe is accepting some kind of lifetime achievement award and bumps into the now-grown kid…with a kid of his own, who gives him a coke.
This was originally a commercial for Folgers coffee. The SNL spoof (at least the first SNL spoof) replaced the blood for hospital patients with Folgers. They showed the patients getting wired, hopping out of bed, skipping around, etc.
The “I learned it from watching you…” was spoofed recently on The Daily Show, but I don’t recall the exact circumstance.
Enola Straight, that’s a terrific idea for a commercial. You should suggest it to Coke. I think they did do a modern update during one of the last couple of Super Bowls, but I could be mistaken.
There was a made-for-TV movie entitled The Steeler and the Pittsburgh Kid that told of the events which took place after the chance meeting of the little boy and Mean Joe Greene. However, Coca-Cola never remade the commercial itself.
What with all the problems in the world, why not a new version of “I’d Like to Buy the World A Coke?”
How about a remake of the M&M’s commercial where tan is a single, yellow is a double, orange is a triple, and with the green ones, i hit the ball DOWN TOWN!!
Or the “You can’t be your best…I–if, you don’t eat a good breakfast”
