Funny encounter of the day: I was looking for images related or covers of the albums in the 1000 billboard number 1 singles in almost real time with the 5 second clips of the songs, when I reached Issac Hayes and his Shaft theme… looking for shaft and “who is the man” should not be done with safe search off. :smack:

Yeah, I’ve had some interesting search results myself…and my personal machine at home does in fact have safe search turned off and is completely unfiltered (unlike the other machines on my network).

Yup. Trolly McTrollerson. Unfortunately, he’s savvy enough to avoid most outright rule violations, so he’s prolly going to be here a long time.
I agree he’s a troll. Mostly because I don’t want to believe anyone could seriously think some of the nonsense he’s claimed.
But give him credit. It would have been easy to come here and pretend to be a hardcore rightwing nut. It takes some artistry to play a leftwing fool.
But if he is for real we should track him down and fatten him up to play the role of Ignatius J. Reilly in the film version of A Confederacy of Dunces.

My guess is that he’s just swallowing wholesale what one of his teachers, an “anti-establishment” type, has been preaching. He’s simply regurgitating that person’s knowledge of the material in question. That could also explain why he has no clue about the real effects of communism where it was actually practiced.

I’m sorry that you feel that way. For the record, I genuinely do believe everything that I have said on these boards, and I do consider myself a Communist in the true sense of the term. Of course, this is exactly what I would say if this were all an act, so you will likely choose to disbelieve it…
There’s nothing I can do about your feelings, my friend. I wish that I “felt” more real to you, but there’s little I can do to make you so. My advice to you and those that feel that this is an act: don’t participate. If you believe that I am leading you along by pushing your buttons, than you are wasting both your time and mine by playing along. I have no interest in debating people that dismiss my positions as a joke, and I can’t imagine that you have much interest in debating someone you assume is giggling into his keyboard. If you really think that I’m a troll, do us both a favor and avoid my threads.
I take the utilitarian approach there; the ultimate goal of any social system (economic, political, or otherwise) ought to be the maximizing of human happiness. I believe that socialism inherently creates more happiness than capitalism (assuming that both are implemented with the same degree of care). Thus, when you dig deep enough, my core “value” is happiness.
I disagree. We have had a good amount of interaction so far, and, with no offense intended, I have found your arguments sub-par. I believe that I have done a good job demolishing your positions, my friend, so I’m not sure what “bones” you refer to.

I think that now you’re getting closer to the core of your problem, my friend. The error in your reasoning is that you assume that all Communists will fit your preconceived notions of what Communists should be like, and the fact that, at times, I may deviate from your stereotype, tends to sow discord in your mind.
You need to let these biases go and realize that humans minds are different, and will come up with different angles even when considering the same concept. You’re probably not the kind of person that would go around saying "All blacks like ________ " or "All women act __________ " Claiming that there is a mold that all Communists must fit is no less ignorant.
Yes, I think that this is what trips many of you (i.e. posters in this thread) up. You do not wish to imagine a world in which people think as I do, so you find it easiest to discount my words as farcical or insincere. It is the ostrich-with-his-head-in-the-sand approach to debate; upon encountering arguments that displease you, pretend that they don’t exist and hope that they go away. An easy response, but an intellectually lazy one, nonetheless. There are probably many things that you don’t want to “seriously think” exist, but reality has the nasty habit of intruding upon our own dream-worlds. Tough luck; I exist. You may as well face this fact head-on rather than futilely try to escape it.

No, it’s more like I don’t see you having what it takes to be an actual communist. A real communist would be more convincing. You come off more like somebody pretending to be a communist without anything more than a superficial knowlege about the subject.
For me, it’s the tide of dishonesty, ignorance, stupidity and sheer trollish disingenuousness that does it. Reasonable people can disagree on exactly what make it so clear that commy is a troll, of course.
