Community 12/1

“Oh, it is so on, it has now become very much like Donkey Kong.”

I guess Abed gets more practice speaking like Christian Bale than he does actually doing Batman-like things, such as crawling down a rope out the window. Although Troy was so cute noticing he used the grappling hook Troy gave him.

And another good Troy freak-out when Annie showed him what happened with the DVD.

The manga interlude with Jeff and Shirley in the foosball face-off was pretty neat. Especially how it ended. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome.”

I still can’t believe NBC is taking this show off for a break in January while doing their best to save Whitney. I mean, come on!

Yeah, they’re a bunch of Deutschebags.

The animated sequence was epic. I was laughing so hard at the end.

I about lost it right after Annie broke the DVD, and Troy came out of his room humming a little song to himself.

I loved Jeff’s whole commentary about how those dudes were carrying around a soccer ball just to kick it foosball-style. Add in Annie and Troy freaking out and the anime sequence, and you’ve got yourself some great TV.

I know, right? I had been in the habit of staying tuned to NBC after Community, and watched the first few episodes of Whitney (I find Alex to be generally entertaining, and Whitney when she’s around Alex, but the friends are boring). Now I’m peevishly refusing to watch it. I wouldn’t want to send the wrong message.

The anime was made complete by the quick cut to a meowing cat when they hit the foosball up into the air.

That’s like a $25 bit and it wasn’t that good.

Screen shot of the Chuck Lorre-esque vanity card at the end of the youtube review:

Annie’s Christian-Bale-as-Batman impersonation was awesome.

That was a great episode. The anime interlude was great. Foosball stuff was hilarious, and more Abed-Batman!

Füsenshaften.

Yeah, and then he hums the same song when leaving, only sadder. Glover’s great at comedic emotional displays.

It’s the same tune he hummed in the Halloween ep, too.

I thought it was pretty “meh”, although I got at least one good laugh from Annie’s attempt at imitating a Christian Bale DVD commentary.

I was a little freaked out by the foosball storyline, because my former boss was a devout fundamentalist Christian woman who used to be a foosball champion.

On the whole, though, that was a great episode.

I was really enjoying the show until it turns out that Jeff and Shirley had met before. Then I was mad at the show for doing that. Then the anime happened and I forgave them.

Sweet ending with the 2 kids walking off.

I felt really bad for Tinkletown. Big Cheddar was the embodiment of all that is evil about childhood.

I liked the landlord losing it when Batman came in through the window.

I was instantly reminded of a Friends episode in which Ross describes a childhood bullying incident and the tormentor turned out to have been Phoebe. It’s weak but as far as I can tell, it’s the episode’s only flaw.

Oh, I only wish there was a word to describe this feeling…

I loved Shirley’s deadpan line to Jeff, after showing off her mad Foosball skillz: “You don’t know me.”

Good episode. I liked seeing Shirley get something a little more meaty to chew on besides cheerily baking pies. I loved the soccer ball bit and Jeff’s reaction to it as well as Annie’s Christian Bale voice. And Troy calling out the sitcom trope – brilliant.

I couldn’t quite understand what Shirley was saying at the end of the anime foosball match and the revelation that she was Big Cheddar and he was Tinkletown. I rewound it 3 times and still couldn’t get it.

I couldn’t understand the last thing Jeff said when they were sitting in the restaurant and he stood up and was angry.

I thought it was an enjoyable episode. Does anyone know if there are actually people good enough at foosball that they can “juggle” the ball, chip it into the goal, etc?
