His father was on the show once before (different actor though). Pierce had a flashback to a father-son commercial that was filmed for Hawthorne wipes when he was a kid; Pierce still had baggage from his dad playing himself in the commercial but hiring a child actor to play Pierce.
“Oh my goodness! He’s like the Abed of racism.”

I was just rewatching season one, and there’s an episode where Pierce has a mobile phone, accidentally calls his mother, and you here her say that she just saw his father’s ghost again.
Weird.
There was also a very early mention of air conditioning repair (first 6 or 7 episodes of season 1), although I’ve now forgotten the context.
I DVR’d it earlier and only watched it last night…
I thought it was explained to Pierce that the Hawthorne wipes were being used by cross-dressers as inserts to hide the junk. Wasn’t it the disco queen who explained that? Anyway, that might explain the need for pouches – to hold the inserts/HW’s.
By the way, I see a lot of kudos for this episode, but it really seemed like two un-connected episodes tossed together to fill the whole time-slot.
That’s true, the A and B plots were unusually disconnected in this episode, but I guess there’s no good way to tie together air-conditioning repair and transvestite hygiene, or at least not within a 30-minute episode.
Compared to, say, a conspiracy-theory plot that leads to a frantic chase through the blanket-fort plot, with a brief scene in “the Turkish District”. Classic.
They retconned that a bit by saying in this past episode his mother liked to think of his father as dead. Apparently they were long divorced or separated since Pierce’s mother lived with him but his father didn’t.
pretty sure it’s the “keep orifices super clean” reason. the bruce vilanch joke corroborates.
Pretty sure they’re for wiping shit off your dick.
Gentlemen, gentlemen, must they be for one thing? I’m sure that Hawthorne Wipes have numerous applications (which isn’t to say that one Hawthorne wipe should be applied numerous times, that’s just gross).
I can’t get that stupid tune out of my head… “pocketful of Hawthornes”
What is the Bruce Villanch joke?
Shirley asked what gay people would want with baby wipes.
Troy whispers inaudibly in Shirley’s ear
Shirley says “Ohhh… oh my… even Bruce Vilanch?”
Jeff says “Especially Bruce Villanch…”
Oh, ok, I saw that, thanks. I was thinking there was a specific meme-type joke about Bruce Villanch going around that I’d have to know.
Sorry to interrupt the discussion about dirty anal sex, but I was flipping through a recent Entertainment Weekly and they had a photoshoot with the Community cast dressed up as characters from some classic comedies.
The Breakfast Club picture is so awesome! Ken Jeong especially cracks me up, and Yvette Nicole Brown makes a great Molly Ringwald!
And Alison Brie is great as Phoebe Cates in the Fast Times at Ridgemont High picture.
OK here is the fact
Wipes are for cleaning up the following
Come to think of it, was this the first episode this season that didn’t remind us in some way of the Jeff/Annie tension? I’m pretty sure that all of the other episodes this season had at least a line or two about it.
I just joined this site to share this, because it was just too funny and I hadn’t seen it posted yet. I love the guys from Community.
That’s hilarious.
