Community: Geography of Global Conflict (Season 3 Episode 2)

Looks like it’s my turn to start an episode thread.

I really loved this episode. It might not have been their best work, but definitely better than average.

I kept expecting Britta and Chang to kiss.

What did you guys think?

I loved the non-romantic romance between Britta and Chang. They ached for each other: She wanted so bad to get busted, and he wanted so bad to bust some skulls. Nothing sexual to see here, move along…

The whole Model UN thing was excellent. The wine probably made me laugh way more than I normally would, but I’m not complaining. It was a good episode but far from the pantheon of excellent episodes.

I thought Jeff’s was the line of the episode:

Annie: “If embarrassment were rich zinc deposits, then I’d be Zambia!”
Jeff: “Now now, there’s no reason to be Zambia about anything.”

Until the group busted in to the UN meeting, explaining how they used the Large Hadron Collider to travel across an interdimensional rift in space-time, and the teacher throws up his hands and says: “Hey, the science works out.”

That totally cracked me up.

Yes, that was part of what made it so awesome. Chang sleeping with a second member of the study group could have made for a great few followup episodes though.

He can’t have Annie though!

No wine on my part but I was in a considerably better mood while watching this episode than I was during the season premier. I’m sure that helped since I didn’t care for the premier too much.

Oh and speaking of that teacher, where have I seen that actor before? I can clearly picture a nerdy-type character he played on something or other but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was.

Freaks and Geeks maybe? It’s Martin Starr

Martin Starr. Sorry for mobile link.

He was also the wannabe screenwriter on Party Down.

I felt like the first two episodes of this season has been a little more broad in terms of comedy and storyline. It’s not necessary a bad thing, but I really miss the more subtle episodes like Mixology from last season. This one felt like they wanted to recapture the debate episode from season 1 with the Jeff-Annie storyline (although with some character growth there) and Annie competing with another hyper-perfectionist nemesis.

I did enjoy the episode though and it had a lot of laugh out loud moments for me. They really need to give Shirley some more things to do.

I thought the best line was Jeff’s “How progressive of you to have a multicultural evil twin.”

Wasn’t Annie’s temper tantrum spectacular? Having Abed represent notoriously-neutral Switzerland in the model UN was brilliant.

Best use of Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello” ever.

MARTIN STARR! Thank you!
I was trying to place him and just couldn’t get it. I missed the credits because I was engrossed in the game of Operation.

Ah-ha! That’s it. I watched Freaks & Geeks too but Party Down is what I was remembering him from. He’s hardcore sci-fi.

Hey, the study group already has one Chang baby. We don’t need another!

Both pronunciations are correct.

The tropical paradise of Somalia agrees!

Poor Britta - she was trying so hard.

"She’s going to do something illegal… won’t you?

the blackboard behind him had something along the lines of

“poli sci” vs “sci fi”

“Don’t worry, she’ll be bad at it”

“The badge says to Serve and Protect!”
“No, it doesn’t!”
“[reading] How’s my smile? Aw, man!”

“Not women…Asians!”

Lots of good little jokes, like how Chang read the note on the brick.
