Compile your own soundtrack.

You’ve written your own movie. Now you need to put together soundtrack with music that accentuate the mood in different scenes, including, opening titles, the end credits, action scnece, and, naturally, the key montage scenes!

Rules: Selections from the original scores of other movies are off limits, but classical music, popular music, traditional folk tunes, etc. are all in play. That means you can use “O Fortuna” for your Climactic Fight Scene if you must, but “Duel of the Fates” is off limits. I think it’d be too restrictive to nix any song that has ever been used in any other movie, but try be creative, m’kay, and not just reuse your favorite themes from your favorite movies (though it would be kind of funny to do a whole soundtrack like that.) And let’s keep it to, say, a maximum of two songs by the same artist, unless you’re going for a one-artist deal, like David Bowie in Labyrinth or Queen in Highlander.

Okay, here’s mine:

Opening Titles: Our heroine bids farewell to college.
Francis Poulenc, “Mass in G Major: Sanctus.”

The Travel Montage: Our heroine road-trips cross country with her best friend to see her long-distance boyfriend.
Tracy Grammer, “Wasn’t Born to Follow.”

Post-Breakup Scene: Our heroine mourns her losses after getting the brushoff from her BF, who is revealed to be a major creep.
Jonantha Burke, “Eye in the Sky.”

The Project Montage: Our heroine throws herself into a Big Project at her new job, bonding with her new colleagues and discovering in the process that there’s more to life than Creep Boyfriends.
They Might Be Giants,“Destination Moon.”

Love Theme: Our heroine finds a new love, the funny, geeky, shy guy who she had overlooked at first.
INXS, “Not Enough Time.”

The Chase Scene: There is a high-speed race across town for some really good reason. The antagonists are defeated and humliated and our heroine and her friends are victorious.
Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, “Crocodile Man.”

End Titles: Roll Credits.
The Flaming Lips, “The Morning of the Magicians.”
