Computer (browser) problem

On the 1-100 scale of importance, this rates somewhere between zero and 1. But it irritates me, so here goes.

On my Mozilla browser, I employ the bookmarks toolbar (the horizontal bar near the top that shows small icons of chosen bookmarks).

Because I know what the icons mean, I delete the actual name of the website that is bookmarked, so I have a nice row of little icons up top.

But the Facebook icon is giving me heartache. Around a month or so ago, it decided to switch from the familiar white F inside a blue box (if memory serves) to the big G Google icon.

And I cannot get it to go back to the F.

I have deleted and re-bookmarked, logged off and back onto Facebook, and rattled chicken bones over the keyboard. Nothing works.

As mentioned, this is a nano problem. But if solved I’ll sleep better.

Thanks!

It is called a favicon
Googling that term brings up a few hits - apparently more people have this issue with firefox.
For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/70sxjz/wrong_icons_for_some_bookmarks/

I don’t have a solution - but this should point you in the right direction.

I’ve had favicons get mixed up over the years. I feel like it takes care of it self within a week or so.

Thanks, Jim! I ended up deleting the ‘favicon’ folder and all the icons went to a generic image. Clicking on the Facebook one gave me the proper Facebook icon.

Now I just have to click on the other 10,000 sites to retrieve their correct icons and I’m back in business.

Your database of favicons got corrupted.

A better solution would have been to use SpeedyFox to compress and repair all your Firefox databases. That way you wouldn’t have lost all your other icons. In fact, it’s still a good idea, because it will speed up Firefox, especially if you have been using it for a long time.

I hadn’t heard of Speedyfox. The reviews I’m reading are pretty mixed.

Maybe I’ll give it a try.

Thanks.

OK, just downloaded Speedyfox (yeah, that quick).

I’m sold. Websites open noticeably and remarkably quicker.

Thanks again, GreenWyvern.

I had never heard of Speedyfox either. Gave it a try and, yep, it works – big difference. BTW, I’m using it on Waterfox
