I use the Mozilla Firefox browser and have The Straight Dope on my toolbar. Recently thwe Yahoo! “Y!” has appeared by The Straight Dope. Is this just a coincidence?
One thing I’ve noticed since I’ve switched to Firefox is that my toolbar bookmark icons get messed up. The SDMB on my machine right now has the Google icon. Sometimes it will have the Gmail icon or Yahoo icon. Could be a bug, I suppose.
People in the past have suggested that the SDMB have an icon, but I guess nothing ever came of it.

Using Firefox PR1 the SDMB now has the Blogger icon for whatever reason…
On Firefox, my SDMB quicklink has the Google icon. My GetFuzzy quicklink has the Snopes icon. This is odd, because the GetFuzzy link has an icon associated with it. It seems that FF likes the Snopes icon better, that’s all.
I don’t really mind, though I’m sure I could go to Bugzilla and write something up and it would probably get fixed. But downloading a new version is a long process, and FF works just fine otherwise.
It’s a quirk more than a bug in my view. I really don’t care.
FWIW, I looked at their bug base, and ammended an existing bug report I found there:
They categorized it as “trivial”. That’s about right.
BTW, adding a favicon.ico to this site really shouldn’t cause a measureable amount of extra load - browsers will probably cache these, and they’re tiny anyway. In firefox’s case, it seems to store the image base 64 encoded in bookmarks.html.
VB actually installed one at:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/favicon.ico
It doesn’t show up because it’s not at the document root (the browser looks for http://boards.straightdope.com/favicon.ico by default). VB is trying to give you one, but the board wasn’t installed at doc root.
