Computer gaming... NET_SendPacket ERROR: NO ERROR... wtf?!

First off, yes, I know there are more appropriate computer-related forums I should post this to. I have. I have not received any answers. Secondly, yes, I have searched the net extensively and while this appears to be a common problem, no one has bothered to post a freaking solution or fix!!! You dopers are my last resort.

I play Day of Defeat, a Half-Life mod, frequently. I have been playing for months with no problem. This problem started when I installed a new Visiontek GeForce2 video card last week with the latest drivers–that is the only change I have made.

Here is the problem:

I will boot up Day of Defeat, get the list of available servers, and try to connect to one per usual. The server is contacted and the download and initialization process begins. In that split-second before I would normally be greeted with the map welcome screen, I hear a “BING” and am presented with the following message:

NET_SendPacket ERROR: NO ERROR

Then I’m kicked to my desktop in 600x480 resolution and I have to perform a hard boot.

This happens about 50% of the time I try and connect to a server. This also occurs during map changes.

In my net wanderings, this doesn’t appear to be limited to Day of Defeat, but also affects players of Counter Strike ad Team Fortress.

Once again, I have not done anything save install a new video card. I am not running behind a firewall.

Please, for the love of god, someone help me. This is driving me nucking futs!!!

sorry that i can’t help yet, but what did the vid card mfr say?

Does this happen in any other games, or is it a Half-life specific thing? If it’s just Half-life, do you get it when running the base game, or just the Day of Defeat mod?

I only play Day of Defeat.

However, in my internet searching people that play pretty much any multi-player Half-Life mod have experienced this problem–CS, TFC, etc.

I have a Verto GeForce 2, use the nVidia reference drivers and have never seen this playing CS. Are you using the nVidia drivers?

Are you using the nVidia drivers?

Yes, I am using the very latest Det 3’s available. But I’ve tried several versions.

I concede defeat. I will reinstall Half-Life and Day of Defeat.

What a pain in the a$$ this is.

Could the GeForce 2 be hogging more resources than your previous video card?
Is the previous video card removed or completely disabled?
What does the Device Manager say re: the modem? Working properly?
Apart from Half-Life, is your Internet connection working ok?
What happens if you remove the modem and let Windows re-detect it?
Is the latest version of DirectX installed?

Could the GeForce 2 be hogging more resources than your previous video card?

  • It could be, though I find it unlikely.

Is the previous video card removed or completely disabled?

  • To the best of my knowledge, yes.

What does the Device Manager say re: the modem? Working properly?

  • Yes

Apart from Half-Life, is your Internet connection working ok?

  • Yes

What happens if you remove the modem and let Windows re-detect it?

  • I’ve tried this. Problem still exists.

Is the latest version of DirectX installed?

  • I have 8.0 installed

It’s some sort of network error. The frustrating part about it is that this error occurs intermittently.

Thank you for the suggestions, but I think I’m going to just to a Half-Life reinstall. Sometimes I hate my computer.
