First off, yes, I know there are more appropriate computer-related forums I should post this to. I have. I have not received any answers. Secondly, yes, I have searched the net extensively and while this appears to be a common problem, no one has bothered to post a freaking solution or fix!!! You dopers are my last resort.
I play Day of Defeat, a Half-Life mod, frequently. I have been playing for months with no problem. This problem started when I installed a new Visiontek GeForce2 video card last week with the latest drivers–that is the only change I have made.
Here is the problem:
I will boot up Day of Defeat, get the list of available servers, and try to connect to one per usual. The server is contacted and the download and initialization process begins. In that split-second before I would normally be greeted with the map welcome screen, I hear a “BING” and am presented with the following message:
NET_SendPacket ERROR: NO ERROR
Then I’m kicked to my desktop in 600x480 resolution and I have to perform a hard boot.
This happens about 50% of the time I try and connect to a server. This also occurs during map changes.
In my net wanderings, this doesn’t appear to be limited to Day of Defeat, but also affects players of Counter Strike ad Team Fortress.
Once again, I have not done anything save install a new video card. I am not running behind a firewall.
Please, for the love of god, someone help me. This is driving me nucking futs!!!
