Rage still no working...anyone else having problems?

Just got back to town from a long trip and noticed that there was a Steam patch for Rage that supposedly fixed some of the issues on the PC. Still not working here though…I get the exact same problem on launch, namely it crashes immediately with an error message of “Rage has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution”, which it doesn’t find and then dumps me out to desktop. I haven’t had time to attempt to call tech support or even do a lot of searching online for possible solutions or Steams community message board…thought I’d ask here first as there is probably a 'doper or two who already know the answer.

I have Windows 7 on the machine and my video card is an ATI HD5670. Not a great machine but usually rock solid for games, but this one just isn’t working at all. Any help or links would be much appreciated, as I’d like to be able to play a game I paid over $50 for several weeks ago (pre-order) and I still haven’t been able to even launch yet.

Well, no replies so I’ll just say what I’ve found. Basically, I loaded some new drivers from ATI for the HD 4570 and then repatched the game and at least I’m getting past the initial crash an into the game. Unfortunately the game is nearly un-playable, with all sorts of video artifacts, freezes of between a fraction of a second and up to 2 seconds which continually pause the game, and various other minor but annoying issues. I’m not sure if there are any video settings to better optimize the game…they all seem to be set pretty low to me, even though my system generally rates a high level for graphics. At this point I’ll probably dink around with the video settings wrt my resolution and set that lower and see if the game can even be played, and if not I’ll shelve it until there is a major patch. From what I understand a lot of PC gamers are having these same issues right now, so they are probably working on a patch to address them. I still have Shogun II DLC, the New Vegas DLC and I think Stronghold comes out this month, so I can let this one percolate a bit while the fix all the problems and issues they should have fixed before release. Have to say I’m majorly disappointed at this point. :frowning:

I don’t think the game was well received IMO. I played it on a PS3 so I did not experience the issues you are having.

Kinthalis posted something about updating drivers, but I think that might have just been a problem with the game texture and not what you’re experiencing.

You’ll probably have better luck at one of the game forums. Happy hunting, I hope it works out!

It’s a shame, since from what I can see of the game it looks really cool. But it’s pretty much unplayable as it is right now, for me at least. Even setting the resolution fairly low I get all sorts of video artifacts and clipping that is very distracting, and every time I come up on some event the game does a series of mini-freezes which make it difficult to impossible to play. I’ll go to shoot something, the game will freeze for a second or so and I’ll be pointed at the ceiling while the bad guy is blasting away at me.

Ah well…I have other games I can play for now, and hopefully they will fix this in later patches. :frowning:

Put it on the back burner until the patches are available or you find a fix. Don’t burn yourself out getting frustrated trying to play it as is. Once it’s working good, you can be the judge on if it’s good/bad.

IMO, I expected a whole lot more from id and was very disappointed.
