When I type the password in the dialup box and check the box to remember the password it does not stay saved. What am I doing wrong and how do I correct the problem? Thanks
Hrrmmmm…
Well, I used to have this “problem” on the ol’ family cpu.
I had set the machine up to handle multiple users so each kid could have their own desktop, preferences, etc. The downside was the default profile (the one you get if you don’t enter a name and password when logging on) wouldn’t let you check that box for some reason.
However, you state that you can check the box, it just won’t save the prefs. So is your computer set up for multiple profiles or not?
Windoze has a glitch that if you want DUN to remember the password you need to have the network icon on the desktop even though the network itself is not needed and the DUN will work without it. Do you have the network Icon on the desktop?
There is a way of getting around this glitch by using a script for the DUN but it is probably not worth your time.
I hope this helps.
Make sure that your computer is set up for “Client For Microsoft Networks”.
If it’s set for something else, quite often you’ll connect just fine, but the password won’t be saved.
To check it, go to:
Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Network.
It should say “Client For Microsoft Network” in the big white box, followed by a list of other stuff.
If it is set correctly, or if it can’t be set to that because of other software/networking considerations, you can get a DUN that should work correctly from the MS website (or even a non-MS DUN from places like http://www.softseek.com )
I don’t know how much experience you have working with DUN and Winsock and all that, but if you’re fairly new to the game then seek expert assistance…Windows tends to add and remove components pretty much on its own whims whenever you start playing around with these things.
Oh, and make sure that you have the Windows installation disk handy before making any changes.

You’re using Win95 right? There’s a DUN bug in W95 that should be fixed in W98 (all versions). It’s fairly well documented. Here’s a link:

Oops…seems it is in Win98 too…but that page will help.
