Win ME startup background question

I have a picture that ended up somehow on the startup background (not what you think, its a picture of a subway).

Its not logos.sys, logo.sys or logow.sys (I think those are the three).

Anyway, any help will be appreciated.

Go under Display Settings and see what picture is shown as the wallpaper. I have accidently clicked on “Save as wallpaper” numerous times. You can search for “Internet Explorer Wallpaper” and see if it’s the same pic. If so, delete it and you have a black background.

If you have a .jpg picture for your wallpaper, but previously had it set to a .bmp, for some reason the .bmp will show up first during bootup.

You can get rid of this by changing your wallpaper to “none” and applying the change, then setting it back to the picture you want.

The bmp shows first because ME hasn’t turned on the “active desktop” yet. Disable active desktop, save the image you desire there (must be bmp format), then change the background back to whatever jpg image you have now. ME will ask you to turn the active desktop back on when you do, so you don’t have to manually turn active desktop back on yourself.

Thanks, I think your ideas helped.

I have another problem I’ve never run into before. It doesn’t save the password to my connection. I have to type it in (and sometimes the username as well).

The clock is still set and other passwords are still stored (and have the option to be saved, which “my connection” usually has) so I have my doubts about the little battery in the computer that keeps the clock going and other stuff.

Anyway, any ideas?

Note: Backup your registry. Set a system restore point. Proceed with caution.

Well, you don’t really need to back-up your registry since Windows does it for you with each successful start-up. Just run a “scanreg /restore” if things go awry. It’s very worthwhile to set up ME so it can boot into DOS with a boot menu (Google for it) so that there’s hardly anything you can screw up so badly that you can’t recover it.

This brings up the Me manual & you can search it for what you want.
