Getting rid of picture at startup

Recently, whenever i turn my computer on, when Windows is starting up a picture comes up on my screen, stays on screen for a few seconds, and then disappears to be replaced by the regular wallpaper. The picture is just a jpeg from my picture collection, but when i deleted the picture from the folder, it still came on at startup and ahutfown, so the computer must have made a copy and put it somewhere else. Does anyone know how this happened, and how i might get rid of it?

If you know the name of the picture’s file, search for any instances of it and delete them all and be sure to empty the recycle bin.

Did you (accidentally or not) replace the startup image some time in the past? This image is stored in the file LOGO.SYS for Windows 95/98, and Tweakcentral has instructions for other Windows versions. You should be able to go back to the original startup image by re-installing the default Windows file.

do what Earthling says…

or open logo.sys, logow.sys, logos.sys (from what i remember of win 95/98, they’re either in the C:\ dir or the C:\Windows dir). open them in paint. then u can edit and overwrite the files. just make sure the size, colours and attributes remain the same.
