Computer sleep mode glitch-- any answers??

Every other computer I have ever had only needs a slight movement of the mouse to get out of sleep mode (or… well… whatever that is…) when I’ve left it and then come back. But THIS one has turned out to be a nightmare to restart from Minute One. It’s a brand new Dell Inspiron 560 running Windows 7 home premium and has worked really well in every other way. But even if I only leave for 10 minutes (never mind hours) and then return, moving the mouse does nothing, typing random things on the keyboard does nothing, pressing the on/off button on the monitor does nothing (I just keep getting “no signal”)… actually dropping the mouse on the mouse pad occasionally brings it back. Usually, I have to turn it off and then on, which causes “Restarting Windows” to come up, requiring a username and password. (This CAN’T be right.) It’s the same mouse and monitor I was using before, and they work exactly the same way they did before when I hook the old computer back up.

Has anyone else had this happen?? What did they do???

Right click on the desktop and go to personalize, then click on screen saver (lower right hand option (on my computer, probably different on yours)) and click the link that says “Change Power Settings”.
From there it’s just going to be a matter of finding out what the settings are, and adjusting them as needed. You probably don’t want it to ever go to sleep if you want to be able to wake it by moving the mouse. Just set it to shut the screen off after a certain amount of time.

I did everything, and hopefully it’ll work! Thanks so much. (virtual chocolate chip cookies)
