Only in public perception and sentiment. And in politics and re-elections, that’s everything.
Because the father isn’t Weiner! It’s Breitbart!
Because it adds an additional “offense” to his list of misconduct.

Mind you, I’m the last person to condemn a person for engaging in explicit role play, in fact, I have no problem with it at all. Nor is it my place to inject my opinion as to how he and his wife should deal with his infidelity (and let’s be honest, it was infidelity). But if you’re asking, in the abstract, why her pregnancy matters in the “court of public opinion”, the above illustrates why.
I don’t see how it’s any of the public’s business.
His sexual peccadilloes (assuming they went on between consenting adults) certainly aren’t.
His reputation for honesty and ability to be taken seriously are important to those of his constituents who no longer have faith in him. And those qualities may also be important to his colleagues in the House, who may no longer want to be associated with him on legislation.
You may not have an opinion on his behavior, but many people do. And it’s the people who do care, and dare I say, have a right to care, who are the ones that will determine his fate in politics. What happens with the fate of his marriage will be determined only by him and his wife.
I actually think he could use it to turn it around to his favor. By saying something like, “You know, I understand we live in a coarse culture that likes to make sport whenever human beings are revealed to be frail and imperfect creatures who sometimes let the desires get the better of them. But what these scandalmongers and gossips should remember is that there are human lives and real families at stake here. It would be a kindness to me, my wife, and my son or daughter for us to put this behind us: not by offering anyone up as a sacrifice but by getting back to the important work that faces us as a country and my important work of regaining my wife’s trust and my constituents’ trust.”
At the very least it would expose all those high-minded detractors (“The lies! The tawdriness! Heavens, I think I’m getting the vapors!”) as the insincere phonies I’ve known they were all along.
Whew, she is really thin.
Considering that based upon the timing of all of the emails and chats it appears that most of it was done while he was supposedly working in his legislative offices, etc. Also considering that other than be a cage rattler for the democrats against conservative, he really hasn’t done anything in the legislature of note, maybe because he’s spending all of his time on Facebook, Twitter, etc. horndogging chicks. His constituents may want to consider that in whether they want to employ him again as their representative.
I actually think the best strategy for the Weiners is for his wife to announce that she is going to run for his seat. I bet she would win in a landslide.
Which makes his dick look bigger. Win win!
That’s not a bad idea, actually. She’s smart and she’s hot.
It could be a great strategy for them as a family – if there’s even a seat for either of them to run for!
NY is losing at least 1 seat this year due to the census results. It’s entirely likely Weiner’s seat will just get redistricted out of existence - Problem Solved.
I agree with this, actually, even though I am against the majority of the points Dio has made in this thread.
I don’t care if they CharlieSheen it up at night, as long as they attend and vote the way they campaigned…
Yeah, but… It’s a trust issue.
In a lot of cases, the politicians themselves are our source of info on various pieces of legislation under consideration.
If they say that House Bill xxxx will fix Medicare, and if that politician possibly has a motivation to lie, he will, right? Or not? With the sense of trust gone (and it is now in Weiner’s case for some people), how can you be positive that he is “voting right”?
I can use Republicans as a nearly perfect reverse barometer.
What a clever way to repeat the same actions over and over just so you can get the phrase “young girls” in as many times as possible.
What exactly are you trying to imply, if anything, from this overuse of the phrase “young girls?”
Fiddle, I think that was Shayna’s point.
Now a 17 year-old girl has come forward, saying that she was texting back and forth with A. Weiner over the past few months.
If he sent her any spicy pictures, his political career might well be toast, that is if he doesn’t end up with a stint behind bars and a honor spot on the ol’ sex crime registry for the rest of his life…
There is no allegation that he sent her anything inappropriate. Keep on hoping, though.
If I’m not mistaken (and I could be), the seventeen year old girl did not “come forward.” She was sought out to question by the police, and as far as I know has not suggested that there has been any inappropriate communication.
Or do you think that politicians should not be permitted electronic exchanges of any kind with citizens unless they are verified by numerous forms of ID to be over 21? Even then, how would the politician know that the person they are messaging with is the same person whose ID they saw?
Won’t anyone think of the children?

Isn’t that what makes sending pictures of your junk out on the internet fall into the “stupid idea of the month” category?
