Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

And well done, IMO. Good.

Then they have no business being police officers. They should resign, not wait to get fired and sue to get their jobs back.

I’m not defending their actions or inactions, but I keep going back to training. It also seems like some of the people who are resource officers are people who might be well on their way to a desk job anyway. Point being, maybe school resource officer training and staffing needs a rethink.

Racist Canuks.

Officers informed the retired judge that he matched the description of a 40-50 year old Black suspect and handcuffed him for “officer safety.”

The Judge is 81. He is a mismatch for the suspect by 30 to 40 YEARS

But they got the black part right. That makes him dangerous.

Midwest Innocence Project:

The case was filed directly in the Missouri Supreme Court in part because of confusion regarding whether innocence is enough for a defendant to have their conviction overturned if the defendant was not sentenced to death.

What??!!

Good news–but this was 21 years after the men were wrongfully convicted and 7 years after the men were finally released.

Are they going to go over all of the convictions of this prosecutor?

It’s fine that he was disbarred, but he is responsible for destroying people’s lives. If he had picked these guys up and held them captive for years, he’d be thrown in jail as a kidnapper. The fact that he used the power of the state as a proxy for this false imprisonment shouldn’t shield him.

Cops and prosecutors are going to keep doing this as long as it’s just slap on the wrist in the unlikely event that they get caught.

If you were convicted by this prosecutor they should at least put an asterisk on your rap sheet.

Disbarment just means he can no longer work as Lawyer. This is not a punishment. This is asshole should have to do time.

Convicting a killer, not as important as putting black people behind bars.

Agreed entirely. As I said, so long as the consequences are mild in the rare chance they get caught, they will continue to corrupt the justice system.

This doesn’t just hurt the victims of their misconduct, it erodes the trust that we can put in the justice system overall.

I would be all in favor of a cop or prosecutor caught being given the sentence that they were trying to foist off on their target.

According to media reports, he’s been retired from practicing law since 2013. This literally has no consequence for him.

We have a hate crime enhancement. There should be a hypocrisy enhancement. Cops should get double the time that they people they arrest should get.

Won’t show the whole thing…strange…it’s almost like he is hiding something…

Sometimes, I wish there is a Hell. So that this asshole and his Lawyers can go there;

After listening to the Prosecutors logic, I believe all the cops should be charged with Attempted Suicide for all jumping infront of a deadly moving car. Also if they all completely surrounded the car and then a few officers shot into the car, that would have put other officers in the line of fire, so the officers that fired their guns should also be charged for endangering the life of a cop and reckless use of a fire arm.

One very easy way to improve police credibility, and to increase transparency in controversial cases, would be to pass laws mandating the release of all bodycam footage for any encounter involving civilian injury or death, and any encounter where the civilian involved requests the release.

Police departments often can’t wait to get bodycam footage onto the evening news if it shows their officers doing something positive. They should be required to release it in all situations.

Why did it take seven cops with body armor to issue a warrant to one man?

And yet it is also an appropriate moniker for an attorney, as well.

Here locally, we have an attorney with the unfortunate/apt name of Kevin Crooks. His website and business slogan are “Trust Crooks.”
