Convert Powerpoint to DVD video?

I’ve got a PowerPoint presentation I need to convert so it will run on a stand-alone DVD player connected to a standard television.

The PowerPoint is fairly simple, about 500 slides set to run at about three seconds per slide with no user interaction after it’s started, and it has a background soundtrack. No executables are being launched, no buttons to push, no navigation, just a straight timed slideshow with sound in the background.

I want to be able to burn some DVDs and hand them out to people who don’t have a computer, but do have a DVD player attached to their television.

Any recommendations?

Depends. Some DVD layers can play PC video formats like MPG or AVI. If so, you could use a program like Fraps to capture the slide show in real time as an AVI, and burn it to a DVD.

Find someone with a Mac. Powerpoint can be saved as a .mov file which can be imported into “iDVD” ( A Mac prog) then tx’d to a DVD
Note, some loss of resolution I just tried with one of my .ppt files and some text looked a bit jagged but that may be the font I used (also not sure about your soundtrack)

We’ve got two Macs in the graphics department , but I was avoiding him because he’s busy getting the next catalog ready, and I was hoping I could do this without bothering him.

But maybe not. I’ll go talk to him.

Anybody know of a good converter that runs on Win2k or WinXP?

Google “ppt to dvd” there’s a lot of products. Unfortunately I can’t vouch for any of them but most software like that will give you some sort of free trial.

You can also Google “ppt to avi” then “avi to dvd” to use separate products. Some may be free.

I do see several available, I’ll probably just have to download the trial on a couple and try them out.

Thanks guys (and lady  )

An update to this, in case anyone else was interested.

We wound up using ProShow Gold. Simple to use, fairly cheap, did a great job.

It was not a straight conversion from the Powerpoint, but it was pretty simple. I had Powerpoint export all the slides as pngs, then just selected all 300 as a group and dropped them into ProShow. Then dropped in the five or so mp3s for the background music, and then played with the timings for a few minutes until I had everything lined up like the Powerpoint.

Output options included stand-alone executable, web-based (flash, I think, I didn’t use it), video CD, and of course, DVD.

The whole thing took only about an hour to do, and it turned out great.
