As a housewarming present my beloved sister gave me a new computer; A Dell Inspiron 570, running Windows 7, home version. I’m using the latest version of Firefox with AdBlock and NoScript. My problem is that sites that require log ins (such as the SDMB) will NOT Remember Me, no matter how many times I check the box directing them to do so. I THINK this is a cookie problem but I don’t know why I think that. In case I am right, the options concerning cookies that I can find are below:
My Internet Security option is set to Medium High.
My Internet Privacy level is set to Low. (I set it to Low hoping it would facilitate the acceptance of cookies.)
I also cannot find an option that will allow me to see what, if any, cookies are on this machine.
If the problem is NOT cookie related, please tell me what the problem might be.
Any and all suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
If that turns out not to be it, are you by any chance running any sort of browser cache/temp file cleaning tool such as CCleaner? They will also delete cookies. (CCleaner has a settings menu where you can include/exclude cookies to be deleted.)
If you’re not executing one manually, also make sure there isn’t something scheduled (e.g., daily or at Windows shutdown or startup) to run automatically.
I went back to the Privacy>Settings just to check what I said above. This time, and for the first time, I decided to click the “Help” button; what a world of information Firefox gave me. I had previously enabled the Never Remember History option and, as you probably know, that was a mistake on my part. I didn’t know that selecting that option automatically excluded a lot of cookie information. I followed the Help file’s suggestions and we will see what happens. I will report back on the results. I was too quick to dismiss your suggestion.
The problem now seems to be resolved, at least for SDMB and probably for some other sites as well. Thanks for your input; I wouldn’t have checked up on myself without it.
