NOW you tell me, I was at Petco earlier today to refill the kitty litter, and I made my customary stop at the ferret cage to spend a minute squealing over them.
The number I am curious about is triage fatalities, by which I mean how many people might have made it but did not because the system was too heavily burdened dealing with the pandemic. In some areas, I suspect that number could realistically add five percent to the total, and ought to be included in it even when the cause of death was not directly due to the virus.
There must be some sort of award for the most times the word ‘ferret’ is used in a sentence. Maybe a Pulitzer.
Hard to make a comparison due to factors of diet, average population age, how much testing has occured, etc. but Italy has a 13.4% fatality rate and the US currently has a 5.6% fatality rate.
I’d rather go to the hospital when there’s equipment available.
In the UK, A&E departments are very quiet. This is generally attributed to people’s reluctance to go to a hospital which they see as a possible source of infection. It is also assumed that there must be people dying at home or in care homes who would normally have been taken to A&E and either survived or died in hospital. Of course, they are not getting the usual drunks and sports injuries either.
As a personal anecdote - two weeks ago I managed to cut the back of my thumb with a kitchen knife. (I was cutting the heads off rhubarb at the time). Under normal circumstances, I would have gone to our local hospital and had it stitched up, probably x-rayed as well. As it was, I got my wife to close the gash with steri-strips and bandage it. The wound has healed but there is some underlying damage to the tendon. Stewed rhubarb goes very well with ice cream.
The best people. (Reuters) Always only the best people.
Jesus Fucking Christ! Did you see the CNN interview with the mayor of Las Vegas? That is one ignorant-as-fuck bitch. Makes me even glad we had to cancel our Vegas trip and makes me wary of ever going there while she’s in office.
That was the most insane thing I’ve sat through since today’s coronavirus taskforce debriefing.
The crowdsourced resources of the SDMB are likely best for ferreting out that sort of information …
History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.
Please remember that she is only the mayor of Las Vegas, not of the entire valley. Unless you go to downtown (Fremont Street), you will likely never set foot in the city of Las Vegas.
Downtown is exactly where we had hotel reservations.
Really? So what city are the Cosmo and Venetian in?
No city. Unincorporated township of Paradise in Clark County, Nevada. It’s a perpetual tax haven for the casinos.
But they might want to see the famous pawn shop, which is in the city.
I’ve conducted the household ferret inventory; checked the quantity on hand versus the expected order point; consulted the economic order quantity figure.
We have sufficient ferrets on hand [zero] to weather upcoming ferret shortage.
re Las Vegas mayor - not sane. Hawaii got a number of cases based on returning residents who visited our ninth island.
Doesn’t it just. ![]()

Let’s keep invective like this to the Pit. In particular, let’s refrain from misogynistic epithets like “ignorant-as-fuck bitch.” No warning issued, but given that I’ve already given one note about this in this thread other ones may receive one.

What is the “ninth island” of HI? ![]()
Noted. I was so taken aback by the interview that I forgot which forum this was in.
