Yesterday’s numbers for comparison:

Yesterday marked 5 months since I started posting the daily numbers. I had intended to post the numbers from a month prior to offer some perspective, but I was tired and I forgot. Instead, tonight I’ll post the numbers from one month ago today:

I just checked out the recap video. It’s crazy, there may be a couple of hundred people there in the stands? They could’ve spread way the heck out, instead they’re all sitting closer to each other.

So, basically, 30k a month for deaths. Lovely. :mask:

I know a senior exec at ComEd. He said there are about 160K customers out as of yesterday afternoon. Power should be restored to everyone by tomorrow night. Complicating matters was that they sent 400 employees and contractors to the East Coast for mutual aid from the hurricane damage. So they had to get them back to Chicago.

“He represented the best of what we try to do in the news business and he did it with humor. David was not someone who hurled thunderbolts at people. He hurled jokes, if you will, about them - not to demean them —but to leaven the situation. Yet he was a serious journalist” Sam Donaldson on David Brinkley

“Times have changed in television newscasting. When Chet Huntley and David Brinkley first attracted attention during the 1956 political convention with their jokes and banter on the National Broadcasting Company, they severely rattled the Columbia Broadcasting System with its heavier and more serious mien. The chemistry between the two men carried the day.” Jack Gould for the NYT, 8/3/1970

We need to shut down the god-damned bars. That’s where many of the spreading events are happening.

UK finds a way to remove over 5000 deaths from the figures - and here I was accusing Florida of dodgy accounting, which I still suspect.

Not great company for Brits to be joining

I don’t doubt it, but do you have any evidence?

I’ve been fascinated to follow the New Zealand drama. Unless I’m missing something, they appear to be indicating that asymptomatic victims are not infectious. Huh.

I doubt he does. The BC government isn’t taking this lightly and evidence that bars were a major source of outbreaks would likely get them shutdown pretty quickly.

I think that’s a bit of an overstatement of the journalists’ interpretation that there is a much lower risk of transmission if you are asymptomatic.
Two massive concerns for us -

  • where did this come from?
  • how far has it spread.
If, after “killing ourselves” with the severe lockdown, this gets out and about anyway and we have to go back to home confinement it won’t be pretty.
If - as our rather moronic Deputy PM has announced it is due to a quarantine breach I hope the fucker who spread it is locked up the meanest nastiest dungeon we can find - or better still, charged with sedition and have their citizenship stripped.

Check out the lede on this AP story:

Um… because it’s Texas. Which is full of Texans.

Do you mean “the country of Austria has beaten coronavirus, and is comfortable gathering once more,” or “Austrian citizens seem to have gotten tired of restrictions and have decided to gather in ways that defy best practices for where they are as a nation”?

I ask because all over the internet, there seems to be a sense of “the world has beaten coronavirus, except for the US, Brazil, and a few other places” from the average internet user, and this might give me a better sense of what really is the case.

Am Texan. Can confirm

You have to take personal sick leave if a student tests positive? that doesn’t seem fair. Because with just a few kids being positive at different times a teach could end up taking sick leave for most of the semester.

Aren’t special allowances being made for this unique situation?

Sturgis has live webcams where you can view some of the action of the bike rally. I was enthralled watching some of it. I saw only one mask and the guy was wearing it on his chin.

Webcams in and around Sturgis

It’s still really unclear. Today the school board said we could use the 10 days funded by the CARES act. But what happens the second time? And if its leave, do we work remotely?

I would think if you’re on leave then by definition you are not working.

Well, I can teach remotely. What I am worried about is an expectation that I use leave time but still do my job. Which will annoy me.
