I’m pretty sure there’s a thread around here somewhere for Covid humor (typically, “gallows” type humor), but I can’t find it now. Maybe it got moved to a different forum? Anybody remember this?
I’m not usually prone to conspiracy theories, but this seems more like a ploy to help Trump than anything else. I’m not going to be lining up to get a Russian made vaccine. If It was from almost any other country, even China, I’d want to be first in line, but count me out from having anything to do with Russian made stuff.
The fact that you couldn’t find any “Huntley Brinkley jokes” demonstrates that such a category doesn’t exist. So a frivolous COVID thread would certainly NOT contain “Huntley Brinkley jokes,” since there aren’t any. IOW it would contain stuff that they would not say on the air. [/humor]
I wasn’t asking you for a cite, I was asking myself for a cite.
That doesn’t exist.
I had to get a joke out of the whole thing somehow.
Although…
How about Chet reads some story and throws it to Brinkley and Brinkley looks into the camera, raises an eyebrow and says “Gotta cite for that Chet?”
And Chet goes, “Walter Fuckin’ Cronkite. Goodnight David.”
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Are there any African elephants in your room? Are you sure?
Since 2020 has been like a badly written B-movie so far, I predict the Russian vaccine will turn people into zombies. Hydroxychloroquine will end up being the thing that turns the zombies back to normal, though.
Agreed. The Russians have a completely different mindset for risk-tolerance and human safety considerations. This is evident when you look at their safety record with submarines, nuclear reactors, commercial aircraft, etc.
(I won’t include spacecraft and rockets in the list as (1) those are inherently risky for everyone, and (2) the Russians have been remarkably successful with their Soyuz spacecraft and launch vehicle. Maybe that’s the exception that proves the rule.)
Our gardening group a neighborhood over has doubled in size in the past few months. Tons of newbies growing veggies for the first time, partly as a joint family educational project with kids who have been out of school and partly to have a food source that they control. Seeds have been backordered and hard to come by in a lot of places. The gardening group’s free library of saved seeds has been VERY popular.

I think we can all agree that zombies are bad, but a more realistic worry for me from an inadequately tested vaccine is the possibility of potentially deadly side effects, or something like antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE). This is a phenomenon in which a potential vaccine can induce the production of antibodies which, via ADE, actually worsens the disease the vaccine is designed to protect against.
So an inadequately tested vaccine might actually make thing much worse instead of better.

Close enough.
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Hence, the invasion of Iraq.

Yeah - just to pile on, the Chicago area experienced freaking TORNADOES the other day.
Thousands (including my daughter’s family) remain out of power.
Un-be-lievable!
Spain is having a bit of a spike:

Greece, Romania and Belgium also seeing spikes in new cases (details at the link).
Apparently Austria is over Covid. Im watching Borussia Dortmunds friendly at SC Rheindorf Altach and the crowd isnt distanced and mask wearing seems spotty.

We got lucky (we’re in the near western suburbs), and the lights just flickered a bit during the derecho (the storm that spawned the tornadoes). But, I have several friends and co-workers (all of whom have been working at home) who lost power, and are being told by ComEd they may not get it back until Saturday. It sounds like the issue is that there were so many instances of trees coming down and knocking out power to a block, or just to a single house, and so, there are a huge number of individual repairs which need to be made.
