Exactly. Those aren’t problems causing COVID outbreaks.

20,254,685 total cases
738,930 dead
13,118,618 recovered
In the US:
5,251,446 total cases
166,192 dead
2,715,934 recovered
Yesterday’s numbers for comparison:
Thank you for your hard work doing this. sad.
On a lighter note, apparently the Spanish Flu ended WW2, not the Hiroshima Bomb as most thought:
Thus Covid will likely end either the Afghanistan conflict or the Great war, i am not sure which.
…so New Zealand, after 100 days of no community spread, have had an outbreak.
A family of four, who hasn’t been overseas and had no (apparent) connection to managed isolation have tested positive. So Auckland have been moved back to Level 3, the rest of the country have moved into Level 2. So I’m back in my Level 2 bubble.
Well, it may end the Civil War (“The War of Northern Aggression”) once and for all.
Damn! I am so sorry to read that!
I’ve been hoping we could persuade Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to come up here and run for President. I guess not.
One thing I would note is that the CDC has still been aggregating death certificates as part of its weekly data collection, and I confirmed with them that nothing in Trump’s order affects that process. So, if you’re following excess death counts through the New York Times or other service, that data is still intact.
Problem is that when you look specifically at Florida you’ll see the pattern of fatalities vs infections are not consistant.
The death rate has fallen, but its the way it has fallen - first it rose in a similar way to everywhere else from early July through to the end it went up from 17 to 256 - pretty fast but in line with other outbreaks, but it has fallen from 245 in early August to 96 just 6 days later.
This is not the pattern that we have seen anywhere else, it has actually fallen faster than it rose.
When you look at the corresponding infection data, what you see is a rise from early June of around 1000 cases per day through to around 11000 per day in mid July and then took another 3 weeks to decline to 6500 cases per day for August 11th.
If you take the usual time for recored infection to fatality its usually about 3 to four weeks, so looking back what we see today is this dramtic decline in deaths from a period in time when infections were averaging around 10000 per day - infections at that time were not declining at all, and yet the corresponding deaths 3 weeks later is not only falling, it has jumped off a cliff.
Its worth noting that this pattern is not replicated anywhere else in the world, not in nations with younger populations nor in nations with healthcare systems that are at least as advanced as the US.
In other words Florida figures are a fabrication.
Florida has history of manipulating its coronavirus data, also worth noting that Florida is an extremely significant part of the US electroal college in the US presidential elections and is a heavily Trump supporting state.
All the data and the background of Florida provide the motive and the evidence of data corruption.
I would be interested in any reaslitic evidence to the contrary - but to me it looks like a blatent cover up for electoral purposes.
Just so we’re clear, so we can dig into this properly – we do believe everything up till the recent peak, right?
Well when you identify problems in data in a certain period of time, you then have to consider just how reliable the whole is.
All I can do is direct you to worldometers and examine the data for Florida - not the absolote numbers as such but look at the behaviour of the pandemic, how infection rise and fall, how fatalities rise and fall and then compare to other states or nations.
The discrepancy is marked - to be honest I have not examined every single US state, perhaps I should but the others I have looked at such as California, NY, NJ and some others along with other nations such as Italy, Spain, UK then my argument holds good.
"Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly cut the phone line outside a local nursing home Monday so no one inside could report any coronavirus data. “Good luck calling for help now,” said DeSantis, grinning through a window as a terrified orderly repeatedly picked up the receiver in a vain effort to get a dial tone. “Scream and cry all you want, you fools, no one’s coming to save you—no one even knows you’re in trouble, and now, you’re completely at my mercy.”
From The Onion, the nations finest news source.
Russia has “approved” a vaccine:
There is some doubt and controversy about it, even within Russia:
I have noticed too that the rate of decline in new cases is nearly matched by the decline of deaths, without a delay. The curves are nearly the same per day beginning in mid-July.
Given the 5.1 day gap between first infection and onset of symptoms and the ensuing days or weeks before death occurs, this seems strange to me. Deaths should not begin to decrease at the same time as new cases decrease.
Also, a 25% or 33% decrease in new cases in a single day does not seem reasonable to me.
I’d think to give it a few days and see what happens. At least we’re not, I don’t think, talking about a reduction when we were expecting an increase. The general shape of the curve does at least seem to match what we’re seeing in most other places, a short-term blip perhaps aside.
Holy. Fuck.
I suppose your hobby is shouting “Fire!” in crowded threaters.
That doesn’t belong in a breaking news thread, bubba.
I have been tracking my state & county against the country for several months now. The Johns Hopkins data for WA State matches the state DOH. So at least in one instance, they are not dependent on the new HHS process.
You do realize The Onion is humor as was the “news” article? Just adding a little lightness to our dystopian existence in TrumpWorld. I’ll go back to serious for you.
Sorry. I admit I’m on the ragged edge today.
The trouble is, that might have been true. I love The Onion, really. And I love humor. So I apologize and don’t hold back on my account. I’ll just be the little old lady on the patio in the rain rocking back and forth while she sucks on the corner of an old blanket and hums Gordon Lightfoot tunes.
We do need another thread for COVID frivolity, rants, and stuff that Huntley and Brinkley would never say on the air.
