March Sadness: NCAA Basketball Tournaments to be attended only by staff and family, according to statement by NCAA President Mark Emmert.
I was wondering the same and found this (scroll down to “Japan sees a jump in cases”). Looks like there isn’t widespread testing yet, just like the US, and the number of undetected cases may be quite large. And surprisingly the July Tokyo Olympics is still on, which is f’d up IMO.
Server has a virus! Self isolate!
My work had previously only made an announcement that people who are sick should stay home or work from home, and you could be sent home if you did not follow that directive.
Today, they cancelled meetings of moderate sized groups scheduled in this month and next. We can easily work from home, but the normal policy has not been loosened yet, let alone switched to encouragement/mandatory.
I just heard Seattle area schools are closed for 2 weeks.
Italian government orders the closure of all shops except for food markets and pharmacies.
That’s called a 504 Error, which the SDMB server is doing quite well, thank you very much.
I was at my allergist’s office yesterday. The office is in a hospital. Walking down the hall, I passed a bunch of other medical offices with various specialties. All of them had some kind of notice on the outside of the door about Covid-19. My allergist’s office asked that you request gloves and a mask if you have a cough. The office next door, which was for several specialties, required everyone who entered to put on gloves and a mask, which the sign said were available just inside the door. Other signs said to put on a mask and inform the front desk if you have a cough/fever.
Obviously some differences in views on what precautions need to be taken, probably partly informed by the typical population of patients and staff. The everyone gets a mask approach seems appropriately cautious to me, except that I wonder how many masks they have on hand. If they run out and can’t get more, they won’t be able to implement even the less cautious approach.
Merkel expects that 2/3 of Germans may eventually be infected.
They’re really ramping up the testing here in New Hampshire. They’ve done 22 in the last 24 hours, for a grand total of 90.
My state is hiding information. The game is, “To learn about X, see URL,” and no actual answer to the question posed at the URL. Also, contradictory recommendations and unclear info at the state’s website. It makes me just itch to edit the page.
Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Italy has any sort of fund or whatever for all the businesses affected by this closure.
Father and daughter in Uganda ‘arrested for giving out fake coronavirus vaccine’
Hmm. Too bad that didn’t happen to Bakker. He should’ve been arrested for touting that “silver solution” nonsense as a cure for COVID-19.
This is genuinely terrifying. The US response in some areas appears to be an absolute shit show.
I live in one of the most heavily traveled cities in the country (Las Vegas). We had our first case 6 days ago. Today we confirmed 3 more. ConExpo is here with up to 130,000 people. There has been no indication of how many people have been tested in the past week. My guess is it’s fewer than 100 people tested.
In 2 days, ConExpo is over and all those people will fly or drive out of here and back to their home cities.
That’s a lot of potential vectors that no one seems to be concerned with. And that doesn’t even take into account non-ConExpo visitors to our fine city.
Not here in Texas! I don’t think anyone has been tested, other than the Diamond Princess people @ Lackland AFB.
Obviously, we are safe.
Trump is apparently using the Coronavirus issue to attack European allies and give businesses tax breaks.
That’s it. That’s his ‘plan’.
Fuck this guy and everyone who voted for him in 2016.
There ya go!
If you don’t test, you can’t find infected people. And if you don’t find infected people, you don’t have a problem!
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson just posted on Insta that they are positive for Covid-19
(Link to Twitter as I don’t do Zuckerberg apps.)
The NBA just suspended the season!
What a year the last hours have been.
