Congresswoman Katie Porter just held the head of the CDC’s feet to the fire and finally got him to commit to cover testing for those who don’t have insurance.
I just love that woman. I urge people to keep a close eye on her. She’s a fast rising star!

On what grounds do you believe this is likely overblown? Do we or do we not need to prevent it from spreading?
I don’t have a problem with the CDC paying for testing in this emergency situation. The problem with the Congresswoman’s line of questioning, and its absolutist nature, is going to overwhelm the system.
When people get the sniffles now, they will demand that they receive the test and cite this video as proof. When told that they don’t have the coronavirus and get a bill, they will raise their pitchforks. Let the process work—of course the CDC will pay—but this isn’t the way to do it.
This strikes me more as political posturing that will have deleterious effects.
I usually get 1-2 job offers a day based on a 10 year old list from when I was traveling. Lately that has quadrupled.
Denver, I have good news. This afternoon I received one for “Drive-through COVID-19 testing”. Location, Denver. Start date, tomorrow.

It’s amazing how many people still don’t get it.
No matter what we do at this point our systems will be overwhelmed.
Right now is the calm before the storm - the hurricane flags are being flown, the tornado sirens are going off, and still we have people wandering around in a daze saying “but - but- it’s not that bad!”
No, not right NOW, but IT WILL BE.
This nation can yank billions out of thin air to rescue banks and big business but it’s too damn cheap to see that people get tested for a new virus that is causing a pandemic that is killing people and shutting down the global economy.
This is an EMERGENCY.
If we don’t start getting our act together NOW we WILL see a lot of dead and dying in just weeks. Which will cost much more.
I am getting tired of this penny wise and pound foolish bullshit.
This is the kind of “common sense” that the right wing has been peddling for years now.
It is laughable. You know who has been demanding and receiving tests? Millionaires. Basketball players. Senators. Stop projecting your tired and unfounded “common sense” on the rest of the country so we can move on and actually work on becoming the great country that we were.
The only problem with that was that her calculations did not include the cost of the actual coronavirus test. All those other charges are superfluous if we could just get widespread coronavirus testing.We need to do as other countries have and institute dedicated clinics or vans or even drive-through sites for mass testing that will keep sick people away from doctors’ offices and ERs where they are more likely to come in contact with high-risk people. Unfortunately, that is impossible under US healthcare.
Supposedly the Mayo Clinic has opened a drive through testing site, and I just got a .job offer from Denver for a drive through with a start date of 3/13. Getting there. Only two months late
