There’s the key - the presence of a responsible adult! My brother and his friends were just messing around with a bow and arrow. Luckily, it was a kiddie version of the real thing; unluckily, he’d taken the rubber suction cup off the arrow. To be fair, he didn’t literally put the eye out, but he did permanently lose the sight in that eye.

I loved the freedom of my 60’s childhood, but every now and then I remember some of the downsides.
