Cougar Town 5-25-11

Does anyone else watch this show? I love it and this episode was a great capper to a great season. Every character had a moment to shine in this one. Lots of silliness (Knock Language) plus lots of real emotions (Jules and Grayson).

Also…

We got the Community crossover! I had read that CT had finished filming by the time Community’s reference had aired but I guess not. It made an in-show ad for Subway worthwhile.

and…

Ted from Scrubs! As Ted from Scrubs! Singing! I loved the rendition of “Take On Me.” and while I feel bad for poor Ted, how could Gooch not fall for Hootch, even though he is crazy!

Season three doesn’t start until mid season but from what I read they have a full 22 episode oder. Hope this show keeps on keepin’ on!

I thought it was funny with a lot of heart. They really spent a lot of time on the background. Tom the neighbor was big in the episode and I guess has garnered a place in the group. But what was up with Abed from NBC’s Community at the beginning? Would they do a crossover across networks? Are they filmed by the same production company?

Please forgive my newb-ness, but what’s the deal with Courtney Cox’s blond friend having a thing for CC’s son? It feels creepy.

I didn’t even understand the Abed scene. Why did he jump up and run off like that?

There’s been a lot of friendly back and forth. Abed mentions in one Community that he was an extra on the show. Both Busy Phillips and Dan Byrd were in the background of in the Community Finale. It is kinda fun.

I heard this show improved and abandoned its “cougar” premise? Is that right? Is it as funny as Scrubs(same creator)?

I think it’s hilarious. They’ve completely moved away from the whole cougar premise. The first half of season 1 is full of Juls dating 20 year old men but as soon as Grayson became part of the the Culdesac Crew, the threw them together and it works out pretty well. It’s become an ensemble show where the group splits into like 3 different storylines that all experience whatever the episode is about with meetups where everyone checks in. And they pound a shit ton of grape. I dunno when it started but the title animation is mocking the name.

Re: Abed: In an episode of Community (“Critical film Studies”), the show Cougar Town was mentioned a couple of times, including a mesmerizing monologue by Abed where he tells a story about how he got to be an extra on the set of Cougar Town that ends with him having an epiphany about his life and pooping his pants (which explains why he runs away at the end).

As far as I know the only thing the shows have in common are that their respective creators have a friendly relationship.

Re: Laurie (the Blonde friend) and Travis. They know it is icky and she doesn’t have a thing for him (well not a serious one). She was playing off his attraction to her to convince him to go home. She admitted as much at the end of their day together which is why he was mad at her for a while.

Re: Cougars. Yes as others have said the whole “Older ladies bang young dudes” stuff was jettisoned very early on once they realized they had a very funny gang of characters. Now the show is basically a hilarious group of friends/Neighbors that goof on each other and drink wine.

Rent Season one and give it about 4-5 episodes (around the Thanksgiving episode is when the tone fully turns), you will not be disappointed.
