Okay, so the commerical has two guys in a Jetta pull into a gas station. One guy goes in to buy water, some Cheetos, a candy bar, and maybe some other stuff. The girl at the counter seems to be checking him out while she checks him out. Then the guy steps outside where the second guy is just finishing filling the tank. The two guys stop and stare at each other, then the guy at the pump walks across and gets in the driver’s side.
I don’t get it. Are they saying that the guys are taking turns driving it because it’s such a joy to drive? Are they saying that the car gets such good gas mileage that it doesn’t take long to fill the tank? Are they saying that Jetta drivers have sex appeal (girl at the counter)? Are they saying that only passengers may eat in the car? Maybe I’m just being a bonehead, but I don’t get it.
If you look at the guys in the commercial, they are both suntanned (almost sunburnt) on half of their face and one arm each. So, obviously, they’ve been sitting in the same spots for too long and must switch sides for even tanning. The tagline on the commercial is “Well Done” (that’s how I figured it out…after the third or fourth time).
This one confused my mother as well, possibly because the color on her TV isn’t too good. The ad makes no sense unless you notice that both guys are pale on one side and tanned on the other from riding in the car for so long. They switch positions to even out their skin tones.
KGS, that was my best guess, too – but I thought that was kinda lame…
I thought the guys were twins!
And I never noticed the tan lines.
(So much for my aging TV set – or is that really my aging eyes?)
