Countries represented on the SDMB

Sort of like this, you mean?

I can’t find a big enough map, unfortunately, nor a brilliant white one. Please feel free to whine if I’ve missed any countries out. Surely we have some Mexican dopers?

Yup. Here, I’ll get you a better one.

North America.
South America

Aww heck. You can snag the rest. Click on the continent and then choose the (outline Map). As a bonus you can paint the individual states of the US and Canada to make sure we’re all represented.
I’ll have to snag those myself. They’ll be very useful for playing around with.

Allow me to volunteer…

Someone else can do the states - sounds too much like hard work to me!

Fern: those maps are cool, but the NWT-Nunavut border is fucked up on the North American map.

I decided on using a colour, not black, because black makes the borders disappear. And I chose pink because it reminds me of when the sun never set on the British Empire.

Africa.
Americas (I’m assuming all US and Canadian states are covered).
Asia.
Oceania (just remembered we had someone on from East Timor).
Europe (I recall a thread from the other day “ask the guy in Tblisi”).

It’s not me, But I am posting from Wales. From Aberystwyth (the University, until my home connection works).

Hi to the other Welsh dopers!!

Brazilian here… Any other South Americans around ? I think I read one from Uruguay couple weeks ago.

Hmm, I neglected Nunavut, too, and included it in Canada. I’ve redrawn the border based on my National Geographic map and removed it from the Dopized countries. I don’t think we have anyone from there - or do we?

I’ve added Uruguay (Rashak Mani, I’d already included you on the map!).

Thanks you. I found them on the second page of a google image search for North America. I wish I thought of that when I was looking for the individual states. Would have saved me an hour of repainting.
Looking good jjim. Glad I could play a small part. We own this world cause that’s a lot of pink! BTW, you might want to color in Lake Victoria and other large lakes and inland seas blue to help the geographically naive.

Oh, one more thing. I think you placed East Timor in the wrong place. Did you mistake it with Papua New Guinea? East Timor will be on your Asian map as the right half of the last major little island in the Indonesian chain. It looks like the map is too old to give them a border.

How embarrassing. Yes. Ooops. Fixed both Asia and Oceania maps.

Kantalooppi and myself are also Finns, along with others I’m sure I’ll remember right after I press “submit”…

By the way, does anyone have any figures as to what percentage of board members come from outside North America? It would be interesting to see.

auRa, I’ve added Finland in now. Thanks.

I’m sure Singaporeans would really appreciate your saying that. National feeling (and the lack of it) are an important issue here.

I myself am Indian; a transplant in Singapore for purposes of education. Having grown up in a 1,000,000,000 person-3,000,000 sq km country, it’s rather difficult accepting that this itty-bitty 4,000,000 person-700 sq km place is a country. I’ve been here 5 years now and it’s still hard to call it an honest-to-god country. Forgive me, Singapore…

There is this page http://maps.teemingmillions.com/map.html

Talked about here http://teemingmillions.com/maps/

We seem to have pretty much conqured the world then fellow dopers.
Now then can someone design a flag for the Peoples Liberation Army of Dopia and don’t forget the armbands.

No way! I was in Aberystwyth for several days in 1998. I got a lot of weird looks every time I opened my mouth, and more than one person asked me what the hell I was doing there. My reason (I wanted to visit a small town in Wales) did not reassure them of my sanity. Anyway, I totally dug it, met many kind and welcoming people, and had fun calling my parents from a pay phone to spell “Aberystwyth” for them. Wales is beautiful and the rolling hills reminded me of my home in Northern California, except with sheep instead of cows.

jjimm, you forgot to color in Israel. Very nice maps, though!

There is, somewhere, on the Teeming Millions homepage, a couple maps with peoples’ locations on them. They’re several years old and quite outdated now, but maybe they could be updated.

Cool maps jjimm, humm looks like Eastern Europe and most all of Africa needs to be Doperized!
