Covering the anti Trump protests

You get that this isn’t a football game, right?

I miss Brainglutton and Diogenes thecynic

I have to let this nonsense stand on its own, because there is no comment I could make that would not violate forum rules.

I find funny, sad and crazy how threatened Trump and his supporters are of the women’s march. Trump’s first speech after the inauguration was about how there were more people at his inauguration than we saw with our eyes. Then his press secretary claimed it was the largest audience for an inauguration in history (it wasn’t even the largest audience for an event in DC that weekend).

It’s funny because it is so patently and provably false, it’s crazy because Trump supporters will believe it and go on line to attack what is clearly a very threatening movement to their fragile world view and it’s sad because Trump supporters are so uninformed and so filled with hate that they believe lies over what they see with their own eyes and they rush online to defend billionaires who think rural America is just another third world shit hole they can fuck over.

You’ve got lunatics like Rosie O’Donnell literally advocating a coup d’etat. Even if you don’t like Trump - and I don’t like Trump - you should have the wits to understand that the response is way out of proportion for the lawful election of a glorified used car salesman.

For the millionth time: Trump LOST the popular vote by almost 3 million. He won the election because of the technicality of the Electoral College. He lost the popularity contest.

No, the country lost.
I’ll go ahead and

[quote from Janis Ian here]
(https://www.facebook.com/janisianpage/posts/1256196441133738), as she says it better than I could:

Preach it, Janis. Trump may be the President, but he will never be my President.
He is the very epitome of the phrase “the banality of evil”.
He is a liar, on all matters great and small.
He is a petty, narcissistic fool, with no sense of honour or class.
He has accomplished nothing of note, despite starting with all of the possible advantages a person could have.

Yes, he won the election. That does not mean that he gets a pass on his behaviour. He will be held accountable for his words and actions. He is being held accountable for his words and actions. Just the things that he has said and done so far indicate that he is unsuited to the presidency, and I am astonished that anyone can bring themselves to say otherwise.

By the way, somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5 million people have taken part in the protests. Are you going to so lightly dismiss their concerns?

Silly question. Of course you can. They’re not you, your single, solitary self; you have no concern for their feelings, their fears, and their knowledge. All you know is that you feel threatened by the world changing, and would do anything, and sacrifice anyone, to bring back that feeling of smug security. A security that you are unwilling to share beyond your small, petty circle.

I’m just glad that Madonna could find time in her busy, busy life to support her fellow women.

You’re right. That’s why I’m considering making a recurring monthly donation to a progressive organization opposing Trump’s agenda, and otherwise stay unplugged from the news. I can fight Trump and avoiding stressing myself out at the same time.

FYI, I did a quick ask-around to confirm. Not one person anywhere gives a solitary fuck what you think.

These protests are a good morale-booster for the Democrats when they badly need it. Whether they actually mean anything will be determined in the 2018 elections. Wave elections like 2010, 2006 and 1994 happen when the out-of-power party can persuade 80-85% of their general election voters to turn out for the mid-term. Getting your base amped up is a good start but what matters more is selecting good candidates, making sure they have enough money and organization and having an appealing national message.

If only it was that innocuous. All a used car salesman can do is rip you off. This psychopath has the ability to start WW III over a tweet that hurts his precious feelings, he can wreck the economy by looting the treasury for his fat cat buddies, he can set women’s rights back a century, and if he had his fucking way all the Muslims and Mexicans would be in concentration camps.

Yes, there are some pretentious celebrities saying some dumb things on the left, on the other hand, Donald Trump, the president of the United States is raving like a madman at the CIA and tweeting about the ratings of the Apprentice. I don’t think any has given Rosie the launch codes.

It sure is funny that when Rosie O’Donnell says something silly it reflects on all liberals and all democrats, but when the President says something silly they are suddenly deaf, blind ,and mute.

Yeah, Does Rosie O’Donell even work any more? Is she on a show or anything? The first time I thought about her at all in years was when the GOP candidate for president mentioned her for some fucking reason and now the Republicans are all convinced she’s our leader.

Since it seems to concern Grumman so much, I’d like to state for the record that Rosie O’Donnell does not speak for me or anyone else I know, and that neither I nor anyone else I know is in favor of a coup d’état. At this time.

So what? Organization is expensive in both time and money. Every group I support asks for donations and to those I give it gladly.

Please try to keep discussion civil.

[/moderating]

Since you supported him, some measure of responsibility falls to you. And your contribution has some effect, however small, therefore it is unseemly for you to be upset that he is not as popular as you might wish.

I hope that’s good enough, it kinda hurts.

Odd, I watched the marches through much of the day via the internet. I looked at crowd photos, people’s FB & Twitter feeds, and even updated reports from CNN.

You know what I saw nothing of? FUCKING CELEBRITIES!

I had no flipping idea Madonna was even speaking until the Trumpettes informed us - after shoving a monocle in their eye socket so it could pop appropriately.

I had no idea Rosie O’Donnel was there, let alone cared, until the Orange Brigade reacted with their processed outrage-in-a-can to inform us of the horrors of which she spoke.

Fuck that shit. You guys had a literal Nazi happy to attend the inauguration (until the Anarchist elbow shot him) but nobody points at him and assumes everyone in the sparsely attended Trumpification was going to start ethnic genocide tomorrow.

BTW: Dismissing crowds like this as whining and handwaving, is a disservice and smacks of desperation. Remember that the Democarts made this mistake with the Tea Party protests in 2009, which had much, much smaller numbers and nowhere near the legitimate concerns (but plenty of racism! Mm got lots of that!).
