Cowboys For Christ is a movie that will be made by Robin Hardy, the director of the original version of The Wicker Man (I guess he got mad at the remake, which I still want to see though, because it’s being directed by Neil Labute). It stars Christopher Lee, Sean Astin, and Vanessa Redgrave.
This goes on my CAN’T WAIT! list.
Btw, there are some stills from Labute’s remake here (scroll down). It looks like they got the Wicker Man right, but what’s going on with those trees in the background??
This was in the planning before the TWM remake.
It was first titled RIDING OF THE LADDIE.
But that was too remote & rightly rejected.
Then it was MAY DAY.
More understandable, but to WICKER MAN fans- a bit too telling.
But COWBOYS FOR CHRIST?!?!? What crackhead came up with that title?!?!
Is Leann Rimes still on board?
I just hope the C’tians are still essentially the good guys as in TWM.
The LaBute remake sounds like it’s going to be an amalgam of “Wicker Man” and “Harvest Home”. Matriarchal Puritans with strange sexual rituals – perhaps with some atavistic, corn-centered fertility rites? With a heroic antagonist who loses his own family to the cultural war between the modern world and the primitive, fundie hermetic, and presumably inbred villagers? Sounds interesting.
Robin Hardy’s film, OTOH, sounds like a train wreck in the making. I hope to be proved wrong, of course.
