Crafty Dopers, share your projects!

By “putting them together” do you mean making the “sandwich”? That’s my least favorite part. Basting the sandwich takes almost as long as making the top. Using safety pins or straight pins isn’t much easier. Piecing the backing is a pain.

I’ll take this opportunity to pimp Marcia Hohn’s site. Hundreds of patterns with easy to follow instructions, and photos of finished quilts for inspiration.

Yeah, and I’m a cheap hooker, too! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wait!?!

I adore your baby blanket!

No, not really. I coat mine with a shellac/polish that keeps a nice finish on the wood. Unless you wash it, as a friend of mine did.

Thanks! It’s something Mom had done for years, and when I picked up crochet again, she encouraged me to try this.

blush Heh, never thought anyone would say that! I just sorta flitter around in my knitting and enjoy the process more than anything. Yeah that is a bit of a small world. I’ve friended you back! I love the yarn in the scarf. That’s a pretty colour and looks so touchable… I love the rosary too, it’s very pretty. Where did you get the charm (I dunno what else to call it as it’s not really a medallion…) in the middle?

Helena, that’s such a cute sweater. Too bad I can’t do anything like that for Velociraptor (well, maybe I could but who knows how the other boys would react :p)

Thanks! I wish I knew what kind of wood it was. I just wanted a nice, dark wood, and I found this in the bucket full of pen-sized wood blanks. It was really soft wood; it didn’t take long at all to rough it down.

All the beads and holy medallions and such came from a local beadstore Glass with Class .
I gave it to my mom last night. She was very touched. ( Then I ate all her pretzels.)

A lot of online craft stores sell “rosary connectors” and crucifixes. Fire Mountain Gems is one of my favorites.

I taught myself to quilt from that site.

Fire Mountain Gems is evil and causes me to spend money.

I finally took some photos of the works in progress that I’ve got.

Mythical Beasties work in progress #2

OMG, I can finally knit: ugly practice piece #1. This has got to be one of the ugliest things I’ve ever made.

Today is Knit in Public day. I hope you’re all representing.

I knit in public all the time. It’s a favorite activity during coffee dates, etc.

I suddenly wanted to put up pics of some of my jewellery. I don’t know why.

Holy crap. I sold another bag yesterday, to someone whom I consider to be the best knitter/spinner I’ve ever met. That’s a big fat WOOT to me.

w00t! That’s a GOOD thing.

I envy those with the quilt gene. Quilts are great! They’re gorgeous, warm, and I wish I could make one! Years ago w/my MIL’s help, I tried to put one together. Step 1: Cut out 96 identical squares from six different cotton cloths. Step 2: try to sew them together, 1/4" hem, joining corner to corner. (is this where the unknown quilter’s helper, vodka, helps?) Step 3: Baste quilt top, batting, and backing together (more vodka?). Step 4: Surround w/ coordinating border, to fit to bed.

I’m feeling about quilting like I feel about golf, softball, & other sports. It’s not the doing that’s fun. It’s being w/friends & talking/discussing/gossiping. And when you’re done, you’ve a work of art (& new friends).

Love, Phil

Everyday is KIP day for me!

I had my knitting out by the campfire after the pig roast on Saturday. The kids were fascinated…

I didn’t know…not only did I KIP, but I frogged! (Newbies, frogging is “rip it, rip it, rip it!”)
