There’s something missing in between these, unless by “baste” you mean “tie”?
I’m glad your crew has fun quilting!

Really nice. I love the colours.
Years and years ago I made a tank top/ tunic vest with blocks of all different kinds of stitches and patterns like that. I’m just frogging it, and all my other ‘shoved in the cupboard’ woollens, to add to the peggy square blanket.
I love it! That’s exactly the kind of afghan I want to make with different textures and shades of the same color.
Was that knitted, crocheted or both? And did you piece it, or do it in one piece?
Thanks!
Each strip is knitted separately (making it a delightfully portable project), then I crocheted it together and put a crochet border around the whole thing. I got my stitches out of this book – didn’t try anything terribly complicated, since I knit mostly while doing something else (talking, watching TV, playing Scrabble) – so no really long repeats or patterns that I couldn’t figure out where I was when I picked it up. (I’m pretty much a beginner, and haven’t tackled cables or anything.) When I was almost done, I bought this book, but haven’t tried any of those stitches yet. My current project is another afghan for a friend, but he wants color variations, not stitch variations, so I’m playing with different kinds of patterns now.
Here’s a link to my projects page on Ravelry. I’ve been knitting about two years, but only on a regular basis since last fall. Given my newbie-ness, my yarn stash is a bit too bit to justify. But since I joined Ravelry, I at least have patterns queued up for all of the yarn I bought (plus a bunch of other items in my queue that would take a lifetime to knit).
Some projects I’m particularly fond of (with Flickr links for those without Ravelry) are:
Column of Leaves scarf - designed by nyctea scandiaca! I’ve been working on it (in fits and spurts) for at least a year and a half, but I’m about 75% done!
Lace Ribbon Scarf - recently finished, but I haven’t blocked it yet. It’s a gorgeous yarn (50% wool, 50% silk).
Sophie purse - my first venture into felting
Jayne hat that I made for my brother (who now loves me forever and ever - Firefly fans are easy to knit for!)
This is so simple and pretty! Where did you get the pattern?
It’s from Knitty: Lace Ribbon Scarf
Thanks for posting the pattern for me!
For those who don’t have Ravelry, I should mention that I didn’t use the suggested yarn from the pattern (an alpaca/merino/nylon sock yarn). Instead, I used a Handmaiden “Mini Maiden” wool/silk yarn (click on “yarn” at the top of the page and you can scroll over to see it in the same colorway I bought - Peridot).
You are evul.
I missed it, do we have a SDMB Ravelry group yet? I’m ferret-herder there.
Gigi: That quilt is so adorable! Who are you making it for?
I was just thinking that it’s too bad she’s not making it for one of my close friends. She’s a 30yo woman who simply loves Olivia. She’d love something like that.
It’s wonderful, gigi.
I have extra fabric and could whip up a pillow or placemat/tablerunnery thing if you’d like. My email’s available, I think; let me know!
I wrote in the fall about my friend whose daughter Katie died from the MRSA bug. She is pregnant again (a girl!) and due in September. I am amazed at her courage and hope.
I don’t think so, but don’t look at me to start it - I’ve already created the SDMB/Flickr group
Thanks! E-mail sent. I really appreciate it.
I have purchased some Addi Turbo circulars and sock yarn (Wildfoote Handpainted, by Brown Sheep I think. Lilac Desert or something). I have “Socks Soar on Two Circulars” by Cat Bordhi. I lack coordination and resolve.
I have been doing socks non-stop on dpns for months, but I have these items on order too. I like dpns but it will be fun to mix it up I think. And you know - Stephanie Pearl-McPhee says sock yarn doesn’t count as stash, so I don’t feel bad buying it. She is the Yarn Harlot after all.
I think I’m going to do the Column of Leaves scarf soon. I’ve been saving some gorgeous Mountain Colors Mountain Goat for it. I don’t recall the color way but it has browns and golds which will make the leaves look like autumn.
This scarf is so lovely and the first time I saw it was here. Meanwhile, it’s kind of a famous pattern listed by many on Ravelry. It’s far more pretty than Knitty’s Branching Out although I may do that too.
