Cool! Your mentioning your loom takes me back to my childhood home – we had a weaver who lived next store and had a big room-sized loom in his big open upstairs area. We could hear it slamming from outside – he was a little guy and I wonder how he had the muscle to really slam that thing! My mom worked as his bookkeeper and occasionally he had her brush out the mohair throws he would weave to make them fluffier.
New project- I’m making a jester outfit out of this material. I have a pillowcase, a fitted coverlet and one sheet. I’m not sure how loose to make it. I also want to dye it dark green to match the green and black jester’s cap I have. I could use advice in that area as I have never dyed cloth before.
This is a pretty good overview. Hopefully you have a big bucket you can use. You may want to leave it in extra long to make sure the green covers the background color.
It may go without saying, but dye everything before starting to make the garment at all, because you will be dyeing it in hot water and it will shrink if it’s new. I would add to the instructions to say you can take the extra step of rinsing the fabric with a dye-setting chemical
and then wash with Synthrapol (and hot water) to remove any unfixed dye.
Thanks for the advice. I don’t want to dye it too dark. I want the black pattern to show through.
I don’t have a big bucket. Until I read that link, I had planned to use the bathtub. But it seems I run the risk of permanently dying that too. I don’t think my landlord would like that.
I bought a bunch of permanent markers for another project (It turned out I didn’t need them). I may just use those instead.
Zombie crafts? Can this just be an ongoing thread?
My latest project is a donation for a school fundraiser. The necklace is made of a silver-tone pendant and clasp, freshwater pearl dangles, and suede cord. It’s about 18" long. Hopefully they’ll be able to get something for it.
As for me, I recently finished a sweater I started over a year ago. I didn’t work on it for about 9 mos and finally decided I needed to just finish it.
I made this steampunk pin for a Steampunk Faire I’ll be attending this weekend. Actually, I’ve made two days worth of clothing, but don’t have pics of that yet.
I’m currently working on a felt rose. It should be simple. But the instructions are terrible, confusing and make me angry.
I’m starting at least one steam punk project. It’s a suitably baroque glove that will look like a mechanical hand or at least a bit of mad scientist equipment. I borrowed a copy of Steampunk- Gadgets, Gears And Gizmos from a friend and depending on the cost of materials may attempt some of the stuff in the book.
Hi guys! I just found this thread. I’ve been into making necklaces lately and I set up an Etsy store for them a few months ago. Since the pics of everything are there is it kosher for me to post the link? I don’t want to break any board rules.
Tree of Life pendant with citrine. I got several requests to make these with different metals and stones for Christmas presents. I can do them in slightly less time than “forever” now.
I don’t have a problem with it, because you’re not posting in this thread to sell stuff. Of course, you could always post it in Marketplace forum and then we can all look there.
It’s illuminated with high-power LEDs, and consumes around 25W for the equivalent of 100W of incandescent light. I had the LED holders machined to my specifications in China, and the “spider” (the starburst globe holder) laser-cut locally. I spent the last two days cutting and crimping steel-cored fishing leader and stringing Swarovski crystals.
I’m glad this is back – I have made a few quilts since posting last.
Quilt18a | gigisdmb68 | Flickr This was one my late mom had designed and cut out the pieces for – I did it on the machine so some points don’t line up. I sent it around Christmas to a quilting bee friend of Mom’s and she happened to get it on her 50th anniversary.
