Hi all-
This should be a short thread. I remember reading several months back that Craig Ferguson had a particular guest on his show and did an uncharacteristic, long-format interview with him, and that it was hard-hitting, relevant, and amazing. But I can’t remember who the interview subject was. Does anyone recall seeing this or hearing about it? Who was the conversation with, and what was it about? I’d like to know so that I can look up the video.
Thanks,
Zahava
It was with Stephen Fry, and the entire show was simply an hour long interview with no studio audience and no pre-arranged subjects.
Entertaining to a point, but it wasn’t the Holy Grail of television that some made it out to be.
Here’s part one.
Who made it out to be the Holy Grail of television?
Jason Apgood

Craig won the Peabody Award for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, which can be seen on YouTube. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.
The interview with Stephen Fry was nice but dull. It wasn’t even the best one the two have had together. I didn’t understand why people made so much of a fuss about it.
I think CBS made a fuss about it, if you listen to the way Craig described it. He was really just returning the show to what it was originally, under Tom Snyder.
Well if Jason said it, then it must be.
Craig’s just experimenting with the format. You can tell he’s getting frustrated by the arbitrary nature of the show’s and the Network’s limitations, especially since in the UK you have more freedom to play with things once you’re established, and you’re allowed to swear after 9pm. He’s trying to find ways to keep himself interested, and not turn into a droning formulaic zombie like some of the other late night hosts.
Or was it that he won the Tutu Award for his interview with Jason Apgood?
Possible YouTube link.
I think it was probably the Fry interview I heard about, and I’ll have to look it up for myself and see if it was worth the hype. Thanks for your help, everyone!
I think he should win an award for having the first robot skeleton sidekick.
I liked the Tutu interview, and I also liked the Stephen Fry Experiment. Craig is not your typical late night guy, no matter how much they try to disguise it.
