Craigslist: Selling an iPhone 3G

So I’m looking to sell my iPhone 3G. The new OS4 that Apple put out has really crippled it, and I like the possibility of getting quite a bit of money back for it. There were rumors that Radio Shack was buying older iPhones for around $100 - but I went by one yesterday and they offered $11!

I’m looking to see what a fair price would be. This phone is in excellent shape - it’s never been dropped, has had an InvisiShield on it most of its life, and the battery is still good. I put a quick post up on Craigslist, and someone already responded, saying he wouldn’t offer less than $180.

$180 would be amazing - but it really pings my scam-o-meter. Anyone out there sold their old iPhone?

I’m selling mine at gazelle.com - they’re giving me a hundred and ten bucks for it and are sending a box, free shipping.

Have you tried disabling spotlight and double hard resets to speed things back up? I gave mine to my Mom and I don’t know that it is quite as fast as it was under the previous OS, but doing those two things did speed things up. The Map app is the one thing that is still super slow. She wouldn’t use that much, anyhow. I am hoping that Apple works on optimizing things for the 3g in OS updates. We’ll see.

Looking at Ebay a little bit tells me that his offer shouldn’t make you think scam right away. They are going for more than $150 there. I saw one that was selling for 77 and it didn’t even work.

But, if you are worried about scammers go with gazelle. they have a pretty good reputation. And, 100 bucks for old equipment isn’t bad at all.

Yup. It’s still painful. The browser is just as bad, and the map is horrible. Apple says they’re working on it, but it’s frustrating.

I’m planning on upgrading, but I’m going to hold onto my old iPhone. It’ll make a perfectly good iTouch. I’ll probably keep it in my car, attached to my stereo.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for Apple to fix the slowness iOS 4 introduced. That’s just plain irresponsible.

We skipped over Craigslist entirely when we picked up the new 4’s and wanted to get rid of our 3G’s. cashforiphones.com and nextworth.com are also sites that do the same thing. Compare prices based on your wear and which accessories you still have for it, and go with whichever offers a few more bucks.

I got a bit extra with a code, and a bit more extra for taking my payment in Amazon gift cash (and since I buy a lot of household stuff at Amazon it’s good for me.) I got the box on Saturday - meant to send it off today but forgot.
