I don’t know how anybody else feels, but I think the idea of Nicholas Cage as Superman (which was discussed for a time, when Tim Burton was supposed to direct) sounded awful. I don’t like him as Willy Wonka either. ::shudder::
Starsky and Hutch
The only thing that has the teeniest chance of saving this movie is its stars, Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear is sure to suck, though.
Dude, Where’s My Car? was definitely a borefest. I hate Seann William Scott, and while I’m OK with Ashton Kutcher when I watch That 70s Show, it was one of those movies I knew I was gonna hate my friends for making me see right from the beginning. A sequel is frightening, but I’m not friends with most of those people anymore, so I’m safe.
Somehow, Owen Wilson + Ben Stiller strikes me as a similar pairing when it comes to stupidity.
*“Ghengis Khan”: Beijing Star Daily talked with Steven Seagal about his upcoming biopic about the warlord: “We hope to shoot it early next year. At the moment we’re trying to round out a cast. I’ll be playing Khan, and we’ve got a great lot of other actors to play some of the smaller roles. In some respects, this will be the epic film I’ve never been able to do before. And We’re hoping to fill a lot of the roles with local actors to make the film authentic. Genghis Khan was a political and military genius. And it was not always that way, after his father was poisoned to death, many detested his appointing as chief. But this man had such a way about him, and spoke truths that his people hadn’t heard before. Pretty soon three followers turned into three billion followers”. *
Based upon these reports, it appears that Hollywood is approaching a “Singularity”: that is, once they have made the cartoon of the live action movie of the sequel to the cartoon version of the remake of the live action TV show, they will have exhausted every possible story and script humanly imaginable.
It can’t be any worse than the original version. One has to wonder, though, if it’ll have the same effect on Seagal’s career that it had on John Wayne’s.
The go-ahead has been given for a live-action Lupin III film. I’m worried that they’re going to suck everything fun and cool out of it and once again audiences unfamiliar with the source material are going to be left wondering what those wacky fans see in Japanese animation. Besides the usual gore and boobs, of course
Being a lifelong DAWN OF THE DEAD fanatic, I was prepared to give the remake a chance. James Gunn maybe have been stupid enough to write the script for “Scooby-Doo”, but he got his start with Troma and is a horror movie fan.
But it’s got zombie dogs. And a first-time director whose previous experience was music videos.
