as a counterpart to pythonzzz’s thread, what about those things you like to eat which others might find weird?
I love extremely sour things. I’ve peeled and eaten lemons and limes as though they were tangerines, and can plow through Shock Tarts and War Heads until my tongue is raw.
Almost everyone I know makes fun of my fondness for pickled beets. My husband actually leaves the room when I eat beets of any kind and pickled is worse. I also like to put a hard boiled egg in there and let it turn red and pickle.
Everything that’s been mentioned so far . . . well, except for blood sausage.
Plus:
Chicken feet, if I can get them.
Home-made gefilte fish . . . and tasting it before it’s cooked.
Blue cheese dressing on rice cakes.
Home-made chopped liver.
Peanut butter with chunks of salty butter.
Beef tartare.
Anything pickled, especially beets.
Anchovies in salads
Anything with mayonnaise.
Peanut butter and salami.
Homemade salt pickles—dill pickles canned with so much salt it’ll knock your socks off. Or you can slice dill pickles and shake a layer of salt on them.
My mother used to eat creamed peas on toast with a teaspoon or two of sugar on top. I couldn’t even stand to be in the room when she put that concoction together.
I used to put vinegar on my eggs instead of ketchup, which grossed a few folks out, but when salsa became popular I opted for that instead. It has saved the ‘delicate’ sensibilities of my family.
