Crazy Stupid Love

Finally saw it. Its quite a good movie and Ryan Gosling is excellent. In retrospect its quite an All Star cast, neither Gosling nor Stone were very well known when it came out IIRC.

BTW

Does Hannah know about her parents separation? She seems surprised when she hears about it no longer been Steve Carrel’s house. OTH, her she seems to have undergone a change of character, from shooing Gosling away, to demanding to sleep with him. COuld be as a result of unhappiness over the 'rents.

And

What the hell is Gosling’s accent

I liked this movie very much. Can’t answer your spoilers, though. Sorry!

My favorite scene: when worlds collide in the backyard. Makes me laugh each time.

Yeah. Great acting by all. What was great was the way the actors portrayed the sense of confusion and miscommunication in that scene.

David… Lindhagen!

I laughed out loud, IRL, when Gosling heard the name, then started talking his rings off to unload a beatdown.

…and got assaulted by Steve Carrel anyway for his troubles.

For men, the father of your love interest is always a figure of trepidation and fear. Just imagine what Gosling’s character was thinking when he found out who Emma Stones dad was.

Great movie. I’ll agree with you on Emma Stone’s lack of star power at the time, but Gosling was in full “Hey Girl” Gosling mode by that time with several movies coming out around the same time. He’d also already done The Notebook which was huge.

2011 was the year Gosling broke into the top tier, this was one of the movies which
led to that.

I take it that nobody has an answer to my question.:frowning:

I suspect that there was not any intended verisimilitude behind Gosling’s accent, but I had a very negative view of the movie overall, so that may be affecting my assessment.

Gosling also has a weird voice in Gangster Squad. It’s a bit like Kermit the Frog. I hope he’s not planning on turning weird voices or accents into a trademark. We already have Johnny Depp, and the charm has long since worn off him, so we don’t need another one.

It’s been a while since I saw the movie, but I was amazed at how much money Steve Carell’s character was spending at the prompting of Ryan Gosling’s character. As I remember, the evenings in the bar were costing him a couple hundred dollars each night and then there was an expensive wardrobe makeover. By the way, I kind of liked the movie. Steve Carell’s film career seems, in part, to be romantic comedy-drama films for grown-ups (see also Dan in Real Life, Date Night, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Hope Springs, etc.) Some of the comedies are stupid (see Get Smart and Dinner for Schmucks (actually, don’t see those; they’re terrible)).

I can disprove that - I knew who Emma Stone (and Ryan Gosling) were when this movie came out.

I never know who anybody is before they’re big.

My guess is that Hannah did not know - she seemed to be mostly living on her own, and only ‘touching base’ with her parents once in a while. The separation was still pretty recent, and I could see the parents being reticent to tell her.

I remember the babysitter giving naked selfies to the boy who had a crush on her creeping me out some, and the overall message of the movie, which has a huge overlap with the philosophy of stalkers, left me uncomfortable.

But it was a very funny movie.
