Criticize board, thread closed

Isn’t the next line “ting-tang-walla-walla-bing-bang?”

Almost without exception any site I’ve every posted on that has strong moderation prohibits discussion of moderator actions including bans and other sanctions given.

Hee!

I’m a new community member. I wasn’t sure if I’d stay.

After reading this thread, I think I will!

I was thinking more of:

*Oh ah ee oo there’s absolutely no strife
living the timeless life
I don’t need a wife
living the timeless life
If I need a friend I just give a wriggle
Split right down the middle
And when I look there’s two of me
Both as handsome as can be
Oh here we go slithering, here we go slithering and squelching on
Oh here we go slithering, here we go slithering and squelching on
Oh ah ee oo there’s absolutely no strife
living the timeless life
*

You’re very welcome.

Welcome Aboard! Don’t let them convince you you have to do anything with the squid or the goat. I didn’t.

Actually, Tuba probably would have closed it. You see, it was a 6 month old thread that you reopened to make a comment. There really wasn’t much else to say, unless you wanted to post in MPSIMS and get the welcoming wagon all over.

The other thing to consider is that if you were leaving as it seemed you were saying, then leaving it open would just be inviting people to snipe at you after you left. That wouldn’t enhance the board, either, so closing it was a polite way to let you go in peace.

But hey, if you want to be insulted by people trying to be nice, we can’t stop you.

Relax a moment. If you’ll dig through the ATMB history a month or so, you will see at least two rounds of a poster coming in and essentially demanding to get banned. I think Sapo was just commenting that your posts were resembling those prior threads.

Also note that there are certain posters that seem to only want to complain about the way things are run here. Any complaint surfaces, you can be sure they will show up in the thread and and their complaints to the list. It gets tiring. One has to wonder why someone who hates it so much here remains around. I suspect some of the reaction to that is getting transferred to you.

Coffee, nose, monitor… in that order!

Legitimate laugh out loud!

It’ll all come out in the Wash.

And if anybody offers to sell you their turn in the barrel, well…
Ouch! Who kicked me under the table?!?

  1. The proper spelling should be dsmvwld.

  2. The apt description of posters exhibiting the OP’s particular flavor of dysfunction is familiar to the teachers on the board: snowflake. When snowflakes aren’t sufficiently lauded/praised/noticed/cyberfellated, they do what the OP does as a cry for validation.

  3. The OP also refuses to accept that there is a learning curve to operating on a board with moderators and rules - as we say on another board: “Learn or Burn”.

Hey there! I am SoakedRag at the Molotov for Dummies Message Board. Who are you?

Thank God you have found it in your heart to forgive those who dared offend you…

No, you are entitled to your opinion, and we are entitled to agree or disagree. But after a certain point, continuing complaints about the board really become shots at those who do like it, and that’s what I find disrespectful.

And its hard to give as much weight to those complaints when they are based on what you admit is a relatively brief exposure. Your complaints would carry more weight if you’d been around longer because they’d be based on more than just first impressions.

For example, your complaint that a thread was closed because you criticized the board… there seems to be no end of threads in ATMB or the Pit complaining about the mods, or the presence of ads, or any number of otehr subjects. We’ve got criticism of the board coming out of our ears. The thread was simply closed because it had been dormant for six months until your post. That’s a standard practice here to help enforce good thread discipline, but you chose to take it as a personal insult.

I think this thread should be merged with the Shot From Guns’ “Heeeeeeeeey FATTIES” thread.

You and me ain’t hanging out in the same places.

Do y’all really have a problem with that?

Serious question, not a snipe, btw.

Just trying to understand the culture. Obviously, this board has some significant differences with the communities I’m accustomed to.

I didn’t think I was doing anything close to begging for trouble from the admins by commenting on the degree of insiderism that I perceive here.

I knew I’d get hits from the old-timers, but that didn’t bother me so much.

On the board where I hang out, such a comment would spark a discussion from forum members, but the admins would have nothing to say. They certainly wouldn’t kill a thread, regardless of the down time.

But hey, my experience on other boards has no impact on how this board is run. Why should it?

I reckon what I’m saying is that my response came from being taken by surprise.

That’s not to say that I’m any more enthusiastic about the insider culture here than I was before. It’s a bit offputting. Maybe something for you all to consider? Especially if – as replies to this thread indicate – you’ve got more than one person joining this forum and having similar reactions… enough to “get tiring”. Just sayin’, y’know. I haven’t seen that anywhere else.

But I’m willing to give it a spin, see if I can adjust.

Anyway, fwiw, I will object to the contention that all I did was come on here and start bitching. I didn’t. I participated in several threads before going off on my tiny little rant.

Maybe this thread, too, will get killed for zombie-ism. I don’t know. If it does, then I won’t complain. I’ll try to learn from it.

I don’t want to get suspended or banned. I don’t “hate it here” or “hate” any of y’all.

I’d like to stick around if I can fit in.

I just hope that’s possible.

I disagree, TubaDiva, with all due respect. (And I mean that sincerely.)

I did give a reason. In fact, I gave only a reason. I never said that I didn’t like anyone here personally.

And I never asked anyone to thank me for anything.

Yeah, I made a negative comment about the board culture. And I expressed surprise and disappointment at the administrative reaction to that post.

But that’s not to say that I dislike everyone who posts here.

I’m having a hard time getting my head around this board’s zeitgeist. Maybe I’ll adjust and stick around, maybe I’ll decide it’s not for me. We’ll see.

But in my opinion, life’s too short not to hang around people that put you off at first. If you don’t try to do that, then we’re left with tribes. And that never improved anything.

Neither.

My observation was simply that the insider culture is quite off-putting to newbies. Or to this one, at least.

And judging by the responses, I’m not the only one who has made that observation. Seems like y’all get that particular complaint fairly regularly.

One does not need to be a long-time member to chime in about what it feels like to be a newbie on a board. In fact… well, you can connect the dots yourself.

I posted one single complaint after participating in several threads here. That resulted in closing the thread. I expressed my surprise and disappointment at that move, and here we are.

So, one negative comment, followed by an expression of surprise and disappointment at the response. And now I get called on the carpet as if that’s all I had ever done.

Granted, I’m new. No objection there. But those are not the only posts I’ve made.

Ok, now I feel like I’m back in bitch mode. I don’t want to be there.

Still, I have to say, bitching about the forum is not all I’ve done.
