CSI 11/10, A Bullet Runs Through It

I was thinking that the writers on the other CSI shows should watch this episode and find out what they are doing wrong. No way they could pull off the emotion at the end. Yes there was something in the air. I also could not see Horatio Caine in front of a community meeting and so subtly convey discomfort like Grissom. I missed part one last week and I still thought it was a great episode.

Yes, the ending was one of the finest emotional moments of the show, and one of the best in all of TV; it ranked up with the ending of “To See the Invisible Man” from the New Twilight Zone for emotional punch, especially since you didn’t know until the very last instant how the widow was going to respond (she really did look like she was going to go ballistic on him).

Very good episode.

Are you saying that squint and *hands-on-hips * aren’t emotions?

I’m convinced that David Caruso walks around the set dropping little turd florettes into his tighty-whities.

You’d be squinting to if you lived in Miami and didn’t have a decent pair of sunglasses.

Hehehehe.

What was his excuse when he was on NYPD Blue?
This was a great episode. Paul Guilfoyle did a fabulous job and if they ever get rid of his character I’m never watching the show again.

I just saw this and now I am wiping hot tea off my monitor. I need to find a way to work “he can pluck out the hairs and weave himself a shovel” in to everyday conversation.

I was concerned for a few minutes that they were using the episode as a way to get rid of either Brass or Sophia. I’m not terribly attached to Sophia (or any of the women on the show, really–they all bug me for one minor reason or another), but I would have been hugely upset if Brass left.

yep… allergies here as well…

This show keeps upping the bar…

Grissom invoking the “house of God”… knowing from earlier episodes his feelings on such makes that a very different thing for him to do…

I like how the explained the gun for fence guy… still not sure if fence guy planned that, or if it was an “oh crap” moment for him as well…hot potato!

Somehow, this episode with the stache wasnt as surprising…he still needs to get rid of it… but it almost ‘fit’.

Also, I dont think the laser recreation of Bell’s shooting was entirely accurate… the bullet had an upward trajectory into the candle… yet the entrance trajectory was almost flat… but I’m willing to let that slide…

This is the kind of episode that other shows aspire too… or atleast they should.

Oh… did anyone else get upset with Sarah? They’ve really been making her the beligerant one lately…
And I agree… I thought that Brass was going to do something ‘final’… damn glad he didn’t.

Did anyone else get the impression that he was responsible for the shooting he recounted to sophia in the diner?

I thought he came right out and said he was while I was in the kitchen getting a drink. I guess I’m wrong about that.

Yes. Whatta bitch. And I like Sophia, more than either of the other regular female characters.

Another bit of the show I liked was when they tried to recreate the scene of the gun coming off the roof.

“I’m not very athletic.”
“Sarah…”

That scene when she told Sophia she shouldn’t be there started out a bit jealous-bitchy, but as it went on it seem Sara was concerned about the trouble Sophia could get into. Sophia snapping back that she didn’t have any friends outside work, how about you, Sara? then apologizing made it work, I think. Sophia was torn up (as anyone would be) and was reaching out the only way she could.

Brass never said he was responsible for killing a fellow officer in NJ (I think he told Sophia that it wasn’t important who did it) but it was strongly implied.

The bit with Sara wasn’t so much the office scene, but almost anytime Grissom asks her to do something… for example, the recreation of the hotpotato gun…

Last I checked, Grissom was still her boss/supervisor, and I dont care what the “under sherrif” told her to do…
And what the hell? an “under sherrif” ? is that a real job or a made for TV job?

'round these parts, all we gots is Sherrifs** and Deputies…

**I shot one, but I swear it was in self defense.

Knowing how Grissom feels about organized religion, “different” wasn’t exactly the word that sprang to mind. I was thinking of a different word that begins with m and ends with anipulative.

exactly… i was being “kind”… Manipulative is, generally, not in Grissom’s charactor… nor is beign a hypocrite…

Would’ve loved to see Gideon do that scene…

No, I think he was appealing to his audience, that they could trust him because they were in a house of God. They weren’t going to believe him because they thought he was in league with the cops. He had to come up with another angle.

Right… and I get that… but it still isnt something that Grissom would generally appeal to… He would’ve stated that he/his team don’t take sides… the evidence shows this/that.

And I also don’t think his hostile audience would so quickly accept it, in ‘real’ life.

It works for me… etc… but it was a bit out of charactor.

Sarah and Grissom had some flirtations in past seasons but nothing came of it because Gris wasn’t emotionally available. I think Sara still carries a torch for him.
Sophia and Gris seem to have some sort of close relationship (or maybe a past) and I think what we were seeing was a bit of cattiness from two women with a common interest.

Brass may have also been trying to comfort Sophia by telling her it doesn’t matter who killed the cop in Jersey to show that regardless, everyone is affected. I could be wrong though.

I recall in one of the episodes after Ekle split the team up, Grissom commenting to Catherine that he was not good at the politics that are needed to be in his position. He’s proffessional , yet direct and gets right to the brass tacks of a case. I think last night, he has shown growth in learning how to deal with the human element that is involved in cases. The shooting/car chase occured in a largely Latino community and Latinos have a strong Catholic background. Having the community meeting in a church,

  1. Diffuses any possible violence because no self-respecting Catholic is going to do that in their church.

  2. Shows the community that the police and the CSI’s have a respect and knowledge that the church is the center of the community.

  3. That what is spoken inside those walls is the truth because they (Grissom) would not come into their church and lie to them.

I think it was quite an appropriate thing to do.

I’m quite fond of Sophia and am glad she’s getting more airtime. I like the tension between her and Sara.

Good point as seeing it as a growth moment for Grissom…

I think that Grissom is more comfortable with Sophia becuase Sophia has shown no obvious interest in Grissom other than as a peer.

I think Sarah just needs to do a little more self medication…
