My goodness, I haven’t seen that many women play men in I don’t know how long.
It took me a minute to recognize Dr. Lavelle…she was on a couple of episodes of Law and Order. In one, she played a psychiatrist who was sleeping with her atient, and got him to kill his fiance. She hasn’t aged well.
I found the whole story rather tragic. And you don’t often hear the phrase, “Last night I performed fellatio on my wife.”
Twisted episode, pretty cool, except for the lame oyster story. I could see in the tranny’s eyes “Oh Jesus, I’m a woman who used to be a man and THIS guy is weirder than me.”
I think the episode was also helped by the fact that it was written by Jerry Stahl, who’s done other CSIs in the past, but is probably best known for writing the autobiographical Permanent Midnight. The writing just worked, and to me clearly stood out as one of the best-scripted episodes this season.
Maybe I’m stretching a little here, but there seemed to be a little homage to William S. Burroughs’s Naked Lunch (and David Cronenberg’s adaptation of the same), with Dr. Lavelle’s alter ego being named Dr. Benway, and the theme of the doubling and tripling of identities in the episode.
