In one interview I saw, Emily Proctor said that of the three CSIs, Miami was “the comic book version.”
And she managed to get through the interview without saying “Oh, wait…” even once! Way to GO!

THAT makes sense! Thanks!
I loved Caruso in NYPD Blue Season 1, but hated him in CSI Miami. In addition to the obsession with his sunglasses, I think there’s huge miscasting: He acts tough and hard, but sometimes, especially when a pretty woman is involved, acts tender and loving. I know tough and tender can co-exist … but not the way Caruso does it.
I know this is ten years ago, but still … color me amazed.
That Jim Carrey bit is good.
I loved NYPD Blue from the very first episode, but I never liked Caruso that much. I just never thought he was a very good actor, and there was something about his sensitive tough guy routine that was never convincing. The show improved immensely when Jimmy Smits joined the cast.
Holy shit it was resurrected again and I don’t remember writing the OP or this post and now I am even older.
It was a good and thorough OP, at least.
AND helpful to those of us scratching our heads going “WTF, over??? Is this supposed to make sense? Or not?”
Thanks again for writing it ten years ago!
And I think that’s why I like it…even a decade later.
Kind of like how the movie The Warriors was cool and corny, and seemed even cooler when they released a version with short comic book panels introducing the various scenes. Many people don’t like that, but I think it sets the tone, and once you look at it that way it is just a fun ride.
What turns me off of any of the CSI shows is the constant relationship drama they inject, and the amazing poor luck that causes every actor to somehow be involved in serious crime in their personal lives.
So now all of a sudden I’m watching season 1, thank you WE TV, and I’m realizing the storyline plausibility and information is significantly better than the newer seasons. The one episode with the dead priest-when they sat him up it showed the mottling of his skin and it was perfect.
But too bad they don’t show all of the (highly enhanced I’m sure), scenery shots that I love seeing so much. Those didn’t come around until I think halfway through the season right?
I liked him in Jade and that one with DeNiro.
It might be called CSI Miami but it was filmed in Long Beach and the South Bay in Los Angeles County.
It’s not often you see this caliber of deduction.
Yes, and that is awesome but in the more recent seasons, they did a LOT of helicopter filmed (color enhanced) shots of Miami/Miami beach that you don’t see in the earlier seasons.
