CSI Season Finale thoughts? [Spoiler discussion]

“When you get out, don’t take it with you” or words approximating that.

It was a lot of fun. Kind of wierd to hear the CSI geeks really geeking out with Tarantino dialogue.

Only in the Tarantinoverse would CSIs spend their breaks playing a Dukes of Hazzard board game. Heh heh heh. That was awesome.

Also loved the fantasy sequence with Nick observing the hellishly gleeful autopsy.

I’ve forgotten some reference that I had to explain the person I was watching it with, and only vaguely remember now. One character tells another character something like “Don’t you go all [semi-obscure character from some 70s or 80s TV show] on me.”

What was that, exactly, again?

I’m not a Tarantino fan, but it’s was nicely surprising to see what he can do when the script doesn’t include the f-word every other utterance.

That scene where Warrick was talking about his date with his girlfriend, and how the Russian mob was trying to start something with him…what was that all about? Although I admit I might have missed some of it. I got hung up on a mental image when Warrick said, “So there I was, naked as a porn star…”

Okay, what was Nick saying that Gil could lip read that led Gil to say, “No, Nick, you never did.”

The only thing that bugged me was the amount of standing around they did. Your fellow officer is buried alive, and they spent a lot of time hanging out in the hall while Gil opened the envelope, or watching Nick on the web cam.

When they were digging up the dog, they cut between scenes where Nick could hear them. Obviously, that was a red herring, but what was Nick hearing that led him to believe he was being rescued? Can we assume the box started to crack after he shot out the light?

The dream autopsy was horribly funny. But I loved the rescue. I’m not sure if any of us, after being rescued, could continue to lie there, but Gil was great. “Ecklie, I want my guys back.” I half expected Ecklie to fall to his knees, wailing, “And you shall have them! And we’ll demote Katherine so you can have her too!”

Best episode ever. Whoa.

I thought the twins who were shot through the head were going to be explored in a properly developed B-story. But they never went back to them! Are we going to come back to this case next season?

From what a friend said, she said she thought he said, “I’m sorry I always let you down.” Or something along those lines I believe.

I think he said something to the effect of, “Grissom, I’ve disappointed you.”

This episode was awesome. I thought it started out a little slow, but the tension built so much that at the end, I could barely stand to watch it anymore. Very intense.

I have no idea. I was curious about that too. But if it has already happened then the odds are that it is gone and done I suppose.

So… did anyone see Tarantino cameo? I thought he always made a cameo in anything he directed.

That was an awesome show. I did have a problems with the ants 'cuz I’m squeamish that way, but the autopsy scene made me laugh. “He always did have a good heart”. BWAH!

Was it me, or was Catherine styled differently? She looked softer. Hairstyle maybe?

The guy that played Boots - he’s been in other Tarantino flicks, hasn’t he? The little interrogation scene also had me giggling.

Overall it was the best CSI episode yet.

Not much to add. I rarely watch CSI (even though I don’t dislike it), but this was an AWESOME episode. I’m a huge Tarantino fan, and he never disappoints. My dad is a big CSI fan but doesn’t care for Tarantino’s movies, and he said it was one of the best episodes they’ve ever done.

“Hugging.” Is that what they’re calling it these days?

Good episode – very intense. Anybody know why the fire extinguisher killed the ants, but didn’t hurt Nick?

I think he said something to the effect of, “Grissom, I’ve disappointed you.” I think that’s right. I’m no lip reader, but there was definitely a hard ‘p’ in there. I interepreted it as, “I’m sorry I always disappointed you,” but I wouldn’t swear to it.

I thought that after they revealed that it was just the dog, the Nick looked down and saw ominous cracks appearing around the bulletholes, and sand trickling in, which must have caused the sounds he heard. That was right before the big cracks appeared.

My question is, how did he hear that when later on he was having a hard time hearing because of the gum in his ears? Or did he take the gum out after shooting out the light, and then put something else in his ears to keep out the ants?

Anyway, awesome episode. I totally freaked out when the old guy blew himself up. That was really nicely done, both from an FX point of view and a story point of view.

I was a little disappointed that Grissom didn’t just recognize the fire-ant, but I wonder if that was meant to tie in Eckley’s comment that Grissom’s entymology library wasn’t tax-payer funded, or whatever.

Well this is a good point, but I put it off as the fact he’s in a 2x2x6 box and so any sound is echoed and amplified in the closed area. The bullet shot had to be deafening.

The other problem I had with the gum in the ears and the ants coming in is that they would have immediately gone to work on the gum for the sugars in it.

My group also went to work on discussing the tracing of the webcam. The anonymizer was a good touch. I had a major problem with them finding the cellphone on the surface. It broadcast for 24 hours? I think not.

Oh well, I enjoyed the show.

Something I liked was that, unlike other shows with stunt directors, this one was absolutely canonical, as if Tarentino has watched and memorized every previous episode (which I wouldn’t be surprised to hear). I mean, since Grissom got his ears fixed there has been little, if any, use of that part of his life. We always knew there would come a time that Catherine (or is she with a K? C is a sexier letter) would get into a jam that only her father could fix and she would have to swallow her pride and ask for his special kind of help. And didn’t we hear that Nick and his father call each other Cisco and Pancho in an earlier episode?

Tarantino is a major CSI fan, they interviewed a few of the actors and all of them commented on QT’s ability to bring up facts from past episodes and stuff. He approached the producers and asked if he could direct an episode, he didn’t even ask for the finale. He just wanted to be involved.

QT also has a love for Gil. He says he loves seeing Gil match wits.

It’s Catherine with a C.

And yeah, Cisco and Pancho (Poncho? I dunno). I thought it was a fantastically moving touch for Gil to get Nick’s attention by calling him Pancho. Establishing the kinship between them.

An interview said that the actors had all vied to be the one buried for what it offered in developing their character, but I think they made the right call in burying Nick. He’s always been the relative loner imho. And now we really saw the team come together as a unit again.

And what’s up with humanizing Eckley? Damnit, I needed to be able to blame him for all the shit that piled up.

I felt the same way–he had to go and be all human and caring about his people … now I can’t hate him nearly as much.

I think burying Nick was a great call, too. As I’d said earlier, I wouldn’t have cared so much about anybody else (except Greg). And Warrick’s reaction to the whole thing … just beautiful. We could already be pretty sure that these people cared about each other, but the looks on all their faces when they first saw the webcam … either it was truly touching, or it’s far too easy to make me cry.

I had been uncertain about Tarantino directing–I really didn’t want to see Reservoir CSI or anything. But I retract any doubts I had–he did a great job. If I had known beforehand that he was a fan of the show, I may not have worried so much.

In an earlier episode of CSI, they used a heat sensor thingie to find a woman who’d been buried alive (I believe it was Jolene Blalock of T’Pol fame) so why didn’t they use that this time? I thought that’s what Catherine had, but it turned out she was looking for the webcam transmitter.

Oh, I forgot Warrick’s line when they found him, “Nicky, we got you! We got you! Put that thing down! We got you!” The way he said it made me laugh.

(The thing was the gun. I would have thought there would have been only one bullet, and he used it when he shot out the light.)

Yes, in an interview it was made clear that he has NEVER missed an episode.

Greg would have been my next choice because of his status as still the ‘new guy’. I am glad he’s out and about, but I am waiting to see him really be brought into the fold. It would have been a fantastic way to bring him into the fold.

Speaking of Greg, I thought it was interesting to hear the jackass tech telling Greg how he missed the ‘old Greg’. Well, the old Greg would have been sent back to the lab, this was a necessary change to keep the job. I think they were showing that Greg is distancing himself from the lab techs and trying to be closer to the CSIs.

I loved how Grissom told Eckley that “I want my boys back.” And I can only hope we see the teams reunite into the Power Ranger Megazord CSI team, or whatever you want to call it.

Anyone remember when Grissom looked to be grooming Warrick to take over upon his departure? They’ve assured us that Grissom will be here for season six, or at least the beginning of it. If the teams reunite then Catherine is the shoo-in to take over as the boss. But if they don’t reunite… how would the team dynamics be if Warrick got the promotion to replace Catherine on Swing and Catherine got night? That’d cause all sorts of friction and drama. Yummy stuff.

Well someone else might have had the equipment, but also the electronic/metal detector was probably more reliable. I suspect you’re talking about the helicopter heat detector, the other issue I see with using it is that they’re in the middle of lots of trees, bushes and stuff to block the ground from the sensor. When they used it before, they were in the middle of the desert.
